I want to get my satoshis from the internet 🧡💾

Good morning!

I currently store my Satoshis with Relai. However, this exposes them to internal and external risks from the provider 24/7. As is so often recommended, I would now like to take this into my own hands.

I am therefore looking for a Bitcoin wallet that is as cheap and reliable as possible.

The following points are important to me:

  • You should be able to create your own seed phase, attention not in addition to a predetermined one, but actually choose one yourself. This is the only way to ensure that I can remember it.

  • The wallet should be 100% reliable and guarantee me access to my Satoshis even after years.

  • As I currently own less than 0.035 Bitcoin and this number will not increase tenfold in the foreseeable future (unless the Bitcoin bear market finally arrives), the wallet should not cost €300, as this would reduce the value of my Satoshis by around 10% 🥺 and if you look at it that way, the device should cost <€100. Of course, that limits the choice a lot.

  • Additional point: (Not important and not absolutely necessary) It would be a nice extra if the wallet also supported Ethereum, as I'm considering buying an ETH.

Would appreciate any recommendations and thank you in advance

$BTC (+0,83%)

$ETH (+1,43%)

I urgently need a cold wallet before a hacker from Paraguay grabs 0.034 BTC at 03:00 in the morning.

@Yoshika Good morning my dear, have you also been unable to sleep (because of or despite your Bitcoin) or are you traveling in other time zones? I saw that you don't have any Ethereum, but you do have Solana. Would it make sense for me to choose Solana instead of Ethereum as my second cryptocurrency for the time being?

@Iwamoto
I have Solana because I believe in the energy of the builders there.

@Yoshika
Ethereum is infrastructure. If you are looking for security, I think this is the better second pillar alongside BTC.

@Yoshika Great. Now I still have a problem: where to buy Solana 😀

Good morning :)
actually, your sats are not with Relai😅 you created a wallet in the app and hopefully wrote down the 12 words well? :D

Apart from that, a hardware wallet is of course recommended - although you can also buy one as soon as your stack gets too big.

For the price, only the Blockstream Jade and Trezor Model One come into question. Both are perfectly fine for Bitcoin, but don't support ETH.

However, I would recommend that you don't go by your current stack, but by your future one. And if you're really planning to become a wholecoiner, buy the BitBox Multi - you can also use it to store ETH :)

@stefan_21 Good morning again, so I haven't written them down but every few months I take screenshots in case they have changed or I can't find them anymore 😜

Relai doesn't sound too bad at first. Does that make it a fully-fledged wallet? In principle, it should be possible to have an app instead of such an additional device...
With the ones you recommended. Can I choose my own seed phrase for the ones you recommend? That's very important to me.
In the meantime, out of curiosity, I bought a Solana and some Ethereum from Coinbase (extremely expensive, but I have an account)🙈 Do you also have AltCoins? Perhaps the advantage of Coinbase is that I can stake the whole thing straight away.
I'm definitely going to order one of the wallets you recommended. I'm just waiting for Black Friday as recommended by Alpaca.

@Iwamoto Relai is a fully-fledged hot wallet. The disadvantage is access to the Internet - the advantage is simplicity.
You can also enter the 12 Relai words into another wallet at any time - you are not dependent on Relai and Relai cannot access your coins either :)

Yes, you can always
a) generate a new seed phrase
b) restore an existing one

With b) you can of course enter and use your own seed phrase that you have created/diced yourself.

No, I don't have any altcoins and I wouldn't recommend holding them for the long term either :) For me, Bitcoin and altcoins are two completely different asset classes.

Apart from stablecoins, I don't see any relevant use case for altcoins. And I am convinced that stablecoins will run on Bitcoin in the future. Everyone wants to use the most secure network to transfer value.

@Iwamoto I'd love to :) oh yes, and please save the screenshots of the seed phrase in the cloud so you don't lose them🤪

And before you get one now, wait for Black Friday, there are also a few percentages on wallets that you can take with you :)

BitBox02 ♥️

However, a self-created seed phrase is less reliable than a randomly created one. And how reliable is your memory for the next 5, 10, 20... years?

I can also only recommend BitBox, but I have no reference to other cold wallets either

I am very satisfied with the Bitbox02. More precisely with the BitcoinOnly Edition.

@Psychedelic_Sunflower Did you choose the Bitcoin Only version for a specific reason? The other one costs the same and can do more, are there any compromises in security or other disadvantages?

@Iwamoto As the BTConly version has less code, it also has a smaller attack surface and is therefore even more secure. And since I only have Bitcoin in my portfolio anyway, this was the logical decision for me.

After much deliberation, I have now purchased one from Onekey geholt👍🏻
