@Wojtek It's always funny to read that already silly line about Netflix, especially when the most successful shows (Wednesday, Stranger Things, Bridgerton, KPop Demon Hunters...), which are the only things keeping the whole thing afloat, are woke as fuck :D
@RegularJohn Yeah, exactly—the shows were good until Netflix started pushing that “woke” propaganda. Netflix has to include something controversial in their shows, or else they’ll face penalties. I and everyone I know have come to hate all these shows (new seasons) because this crap is being forced on everyone. Do whatever you want, but don’t force it on me, my family, or my friends. Most people feel the same way. The old seasons, before the “woke” propaganda came along, were awesome. Since then, it’s just been disgusting.
@Wojtek Why does it bother you when a TV show depicts something that's a normal part of life, just because it doesn't fit into your idea of "normal"? You and your friends seem pretty fragile :)
@Wojtek It's really hilarious that you, of all people, are denouncing "mandated propaganda" and then, in the very next sentence, are literally parroting right-wing propaganda (it's a complete lie that Netflix has to include certain content to avoid penalties). You’re just a fragile little wimp who can’t handle his own masculinity.
That aside, the fact remains that the “woke” productions on Netflix are the most successful. It’s actually a prime example of how “go woke, go broke” is a myth deliberately spread by very specific circles.
Netflix is going down the drain because 95% of its original productions are nothing but trash (it used to be different) and, as the article states, the diversification of its offerings isn’t going over well. Of course, it gets tricky when the competition now offers better movies (Amazon), better series (HBO), and better original productions (Apple).
@RegularJohn EU Law: Netflix is generally required to include at least 30% European content in its catalog within the EU and to highlight it accordingly. There is no specific LGBTQ or diversity quota in the EU.
Netflix itself: Netflix has its own diversity and inclusion guidelines for productions. These include, for example, guidelines and goals regarding the representation of various groups, explicitly including LGBTQ+ representation. These are internal company guidelines, not legal obligations for Netflix.
@Wojtek So you've actually refuted your own claim. That means Netflix doesn't have to pay any fines. The company's policy is one it chose for itself, and as I said, the raw numbers suggest that "woke" productions, in particular, are frequently watched.
@RegularJohn Why did I refute my own claim? If internal company policy isn't followed, the department will definitely face some kind of punishment. "Woke" productions aren't watched very often, and they don't want to be watched. Every time that kind of crap pops up, it gets shut down right away.
@Wojtek The "penalty" will be that such productions will not go into production if they do not meet the company's internal guidelines. But this is the case at every company—things are done according to company guidelines. That’s the case at radio stations, it’s the case at public broadcasters, and it’s even the case at every private village station.
Content quality on $NFLX is declining! While subscriptions are rising, usage is falling—people remain members in name only, but the traffic isn't there!
Wells Fargo sees exactly that: H1 2026 at about 1.6 hours per day per user, which is roughly 8% below 2023 levels on an adjusted basis. The top 100 originals are expected to see a drop of about 21% in viewing hours in H2.
This is critical because revenue growth no longer comes from rising subscriptions but from price increases and advertising. People who watch less are more likely to cancel and get annoyed by the ads.
I got a "usage warning" from Netflix yesterday. Either agree to the price increase from €4.99 to €6.99 (ad-supported version), or they’ll cancel my subscription. Now that’s what I call a hefty price hike—from now on, I’ll only use Netflix if I want to watch something specific, and then I’ll cancel it right away afterward.
I think Wells Fargo’s downgrade is overblown. Just because there isn’t a hit right now? Summer just ended. Who’s to say Netflix doesn’t have anything lined up for fall or winter?
Hits come around again and again—just be patient. It used to be that way at Disney, too.
Plus, you can’t compare viewer engagement with platforms like TikTok. I pay my subscription every month and watch, if at all, 1–2 movies a week. That still makes me a valuable customer.
