In August, Deutsche Telekom built 9 percent more fiber optic lines than in August of the previous year.

For a long time, Deutsche Telekom was $DTE (-0,22%) was scolded by its competitors for building virtually no fiber optic connections to its customers and resting on its historically grown copper network.
》These times are over《
For August 2025 alone, Deutsche Telekom reports having built "over 218,000 new fiber optic connections".
A total of around 11.6 million households and companies could now book fiber-optic tariffs. Statistically speaking, this expansion performance represents an increase of 9% compared to the same month last year (August 2024).
If the fiber optic/copper network via Telekom's VDSL is included, "over 37.1 million households and companies" could book lines and tariffs with up to 100 Mbit/s, and around 31.7 million have the option of getting "up to 250 Mbit/s".
》What do customers in the Telekom network do with fiber optics?
In August 2025, "MagentaTV" was the most used application on the Deutsche Telekom network, followed by YouTube in second place and Netflix in third place, followed by Amazon Prime Video (fourth place) and services via the "Akamai Cloud" in fifth place, on a par with Instagram's social media offering.
There were no changes in uploads compared to the previous year: Most uploads go to Google Cloud ahead of Microsoft Teams, Discord, various Google APIs and via WhatsApp.
Interface for broadband expansion
According to Deutsche Telekom, it is the "first and so far only company" to use a digital interface to the broadband portal for fiber optic expansion. This means that all necessary applications for the expansion of high-speed Internet can be exchanged completely digitally between a municipality and a telecommunications provider.
Both the municipalities and the companies remain in their familiar systems, where they can track the status of the project and issue and receive notifications. For the municipalities, this means fewer queries, clear requirements, more transparency regarding construction projects and significantly shorter processing times. The more municipalities register with the broadband portal, the faster Telekom can drive forward its fiber optic expansion.
