After "Cheat pack of the year": Milka chocolate receives another negative award

$MDLZ (+0,15%)

My dears, I will continue not to invest here.

Milka received the "Cheat pack of the year 2025" award from the consumer advice center. Now the chocolate brand has received another negative award.

Every child in Germany knows Milka chocolate and its purple cow. In the past year, however, the chocolate brand from the US company Mondelēz has come in for a lot of criticism - for example for distorting competition with a record fine from the EU-competition authorities or shrinkflation, for which it has been die Mogelpackung des Jahres 2025 erhielt. Now another negative award has been added to the list.

"Be Slavery Free" is an alliance of Australian civil society organizations that campaign against modern slavery, forced labor, child labor and human trafficking. On its website, the alliance has published a "Chocolate Scorecard" that rates chocolate manufacturers according to criteria such as the income of cocoa farmers, child labor, deforestation and the use of pesticides. Mondelēz, Milka's parent company, was awarded the "Bad Egg" negative prize.

@Epi Since slaves and livestock have no rights, you can paint them however you like. 🫠

We've all seen how the price of Milka, for example, has gone up massively in recent years and we've also seen that the packs are getting smaller and smaller.
The taste has probably changed too ...

I can tell you that at least we steer clear of Milka.
I can also tell you that I have the impression that Milka is now like lead on the shelf.
Milka is on sale every 14 days at the latest with discounts of around 50%.

That wasn't the case last year. We still leave it lying around.

At $LISN, we had the drama over Easter with the overpriced bunnies that nobody bought, the full shelves were present on all channels. After Easter, there were price adjustments downwards for the wide range and lower prices have already been announced for Christmas.

The customer has it in their own hands and if their wallet is already thin anyway, unnecessary products like these are left lying around faster, more often and for longer.

@Artiskon Thank you for bringing your own experiences to the post. That's what makes our community special. Buffet says to invest in companies that you buy yourself.

I usually like your posts. But "alliances of Australian! CIVIL SOCIAL activists for socialism" and "German consumer organization"? Can't take you seriously there. Read "Capitalism and it's critics" by Financial Times author John Cassidy so that you can distinguish left-wing propaganda for Stalinist social reconstruction from reality.

@gloinvest Hello dear, I don't want to judge these contributions and the companies. I can't really do that either. I see this report reimbursement from the investors 👓. Such reports are not good for the image. Many consumers base their purchasing behavior on such reports. I think this group is also getting bigger and bigger. And declining sales could be the result. That was the reason for my post. And not to be pigeonholed.

@gloinvest critics should be contextualized. If you think that the chocolate scorecard is propaganda and report misleading info, sue them and let us know. Otherwise, with all due respect, is your word against international NGOs.

@GiCi Thank you for proofing my point and I will not be forced to play the „Reversal of the burden of proof“ card. If anyone thinks he‘s got a valid point of legal wrongdoing and not just hurt someone’s socialist feelings, HE should come forward and sue Mondelez. Otherwise it is Propaganda which is spread in the public.

@gloinvest nope, because the Chocolate Scoreboard is a survey. But you haven't checked either, in the urge of making a political statement. But here we need evidence-based statements, shouting to socialism should not and never be a criterion to investment. So, yes, again, you think the scoreboard is propaganda? Prove them wrong, no place for politics here.

@GiCi I am closely aware of the nature of the publication. There is no legal evidence of wrong doing, rather assumptions on non scientific basis. Which I call out as propaganda to undermine a companies reputation to further a socialist cause.
••
imagem de perfil
@gloinvest so, they want to tarnish the reputation of this Company, but, hey Ritter Sport is doing good and Nestlè answered to the survey! Socialist companies, both of them!
••

@gloinvest Well, Mondelēz ghosted the survey. Only major company to do so. That's not propaganda but a transparency problem. Every other large chocolate company showed up for this academically backed study. Mars, Nestlé, Ferrero, Hershey, Lindt & Sprüngli, Ritter Sport, Unilever, Walmart, Tesco, Lidl, ALDI, REWE, Edeka, Tony's Chocolonely..
