From October 14, new US port charges will come into effect, which could cost Hoegh Autoliners around 30 million US dollars a year. The company is already negotiating with customers to cushion these additional costs - a balancing act between maintaining margins and customer loyalty.
Analysts point to stagnating export figures from key automotive locations such as Germany, Japan and South Korea. The weakness could prove to be more persistent than initially assumed.
