Different TER (costs) for ETFs

Recently there was an interesting article here by @DonkeyInvestor. It was about restructuring his ETF portfolio. Specifically, about saving in alternative, new ETFs with lower management fees (TER). I made a note of that.

During my research, I noticed that prices are shown differently on different platforms. For example, various articles state that UBS has lowered its ETF prices everywhere.

The UBS ETF MSCI World UCITS ETF (USD) A-acc for example, is said to have annual costs of 0.10 % according to Onvista. In Trade Republic, however, the ETF is displayed with costs of 0.29%.

Does anyone know why this might be? Different markets? These are actually global products.

I am currently saving:

$XDWD (+0,4%) (TER 0.19%) -> Xtrackers

$IEMA (+0,25%) (TER 0.18%) -> iShars

$IPRV (+0,03%) (TER 0.75%) -> iShares

$XDEQ (+0,55%) (TER 0.25%) -> Xtrackers

$XDEV (-0,26%) (TER 0.25%) -> Xtrackers

Of course, there are not alternatives from other issuers for each of these products. $IPRV (+0,03%) is comparatively expensive, for example, but rather rare as a product.

Would be grateful for tips, on the one hand why a) the cost display is so different and b) which alternatives are cheaper.

And am I c) that if I decide to invest in new, cheaper ETFs, it is better to keep the old ones in my portfolio instead of switching them and (immediately) paying tax?

C) depends on how much tax would be due on the sale. Are you in the red or can you cover it with your Friday (which you don't use for anything else)? Then reallocate. Otherwise leave it in the custody account

The TER is the same everywhere with the same ISIN. It cannot be different from broker to broker. In case of doubt, the information provided by the brokers is simply incorrect. If in doubt, always check the ETF provider's website directly.

a) The ISIN / WKN should be the same everywhere. If necessary, use different portals or ask support - that's what they are there for :-)

b) World ETF you can look for something like Prime Global, FTSE Developed and MSCI.

c) I would leave the old ETFs (if there are higher profits) and save in the new ones. After all, the TER of 0.19% to 0.15 or 0.12 is not much different. That's a few € a year.

@MoneyISnotREAL With 50k in ETFs (which I'll soon be increasing to 100k), it's already a bit more than a few euros. 😉 I used to have more of your relaxed approach. But now that I'm dealing with shares and the like almost every day, I'm optimizing what I can.
@sobrius Optimization is definitely always possible. Maybe I got it wrong.

If you have larger gains on it, selling it (+taxes) will "cost" you more than just not continuing to save in the ETF and setting up a new one.

Since it's a percentage, it makes no difference whether you have €1 million in one ETF or €100k in 10 ETFs - provided the TER of the individual ETF to the weighted average of the others is the same 👌

Have you thought about how you are going to proceed?

@MoneyISnotREAL I haven't actually entered an allowance for 2024 yet, but I just did. (Good tip from @DonkeyInvestor.) Because I've had losses in day trading recently, I can use it to switch the ETF with the largest share that is in the black tax-free. I will do that. As far as I can find a cheaper replacement in terms of TER, I'll just keep the others running.

a) Are ISINs congruent? Should have the same TER.

b) justetf.com helps with the search

c) I can't help you as a Swiss citizen, sorry. Would also prefer an advisor for taxes instead of a forum.

@GeldGenie This has nothing to do with taxes. They are administrative costs.

@sobrius You write about taxes in the article?

@GeldGenie Only c) is about taxes. However, this has nothing to do with CH or DE, but with investment strategy.

@sobrius Answer only for c) regarding taxes 🤔 - and accordingly CH/DE is different 🤔

@GeldGenie JustETF shows TER 0.10%. Trade Republic with the same ISIN shows 0.29%. My second securities account at Comdirect shows 0.10%. So I have already answered the question myself. The error obviously lies with Trade Republic. It's only a paltry 0.19% difference.... ;-)
