Costs for a Driver's License and a Car

Hi everyone,

As promised, here are my expenses for obtaining a driver’s license and driving a roadworthy vehicle...

attachment

I could have saved a little on the license plate. As a precaution, the oil change cost includes an extra can of oil (2L). All in all, my expenses turned out to be relatively low.

Taking into account the installation costs that haven’t been settled yet, the total expense is expected to be between €4,700 and €4,750.

Have a great week and enjoy the $BTC (-2,37%) -Dip... Discount!!!😜

- X

P.S.: My cash reserves are almost completely depleted, so unfortunately I won’t be able to take advantage of the discount promotion for now. Hope you’re doing well, and feel free to leave your thoughts below.

A car for 1,500 euros? What kind of deal is that?

By the way, that's a really nice old carrot 🥳

@Traxian It's always good to start small; I love old cars.

Every euro that doesn't go toward a car can be invested in stocks or ETFs—as long as you do everything right!

@DISTLOVE What's the problem? It's probably just an old clunker.

@GurkiHDx No problem. I thought €1,500 was really low; I'm currently looking for affordable cars myself. But my price range is 15-20K, and just finding something decent in that range is a challenge, in my opinion.

Have you done the math?;
Driving (filling up) causes wear and tear.
You can set aside 300 euros for every 1,000 km

@Smudeo €300 in wear-and-tear costs per 1,000 km? 🤔 Isn't that a bit much? I'm not at 300,000 km, but at 80,000... The goal is to maybe get it through the TÜV again in 2 years—ideally for another 2 years—and with relatively little effort. After that, I don’t care anymore 😁 I don’t necessarily need to be mobile, since my job is in the town where I live... I moved to be close to work.

Congratulations on getting your driver's license and your car. What was your first car, if I may ask? 😁

@AspirinAndi 2001 Fiat Seicento 😏😂 (80,000 km) in good condition and well-maintained... We'll see how the rest holds up over time 🤠

Cool car—have fun with it!
Are shipping costs really that low? That's pretty unusual for a starter...

@Migu11 Luckily, Mom's still alive 😉

The initial cost is surprisingly low. Hopefully, the ongoing costs won't be too high.

@Isus01 That was my plan—to keep the fixed costs as low as possible... I don’t plan to keep it on the road indefinitely—the car’s still good for another 2 years according to the TÜV. If it lasts that long given how much money I’ve spent on it, I’ll be happy. I’m optimistic—I’ll check in again in 3–5 years. 🤪

@Traxian I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. 😊

A driver's license for just under 2,400 € is a bargain. My son paid almost 4K (and didn't fail).

@toscho It always depends on where you get your license. My daughter paid around 3,800 in Berlin's affluent suburbs, and her friend paid around 2,800 in the countryside by the Baltic Sea.

I think there are regional differences.
