Sounds absurd, but it's real: Amazon knocks €100 off XR glasses with 135" display & Harman sound

Good morning my dears,

This is not meant to be an advertisement, because I am not paid by anyone and I do everything here on a voluntary basis because the community is important to me.

I want to discuss things with you again and your opinion is always very important to me.

So far, these new glasses have been more of a flop. Appel has partially stopped production and things haven't gone so well at Meta either. And Mark's dream of the Metaverse remained a dream.

It was said that "the glasses are clunky, heavy and too expensive"

But Qualcomm, among others $QCOM (+1,44%) and $EL (+0,46%) Luxottica made it possible to eliminate this problem.

The i Phone wasn't an instant hit either.

Based on the latest developments in price, weight and size, how do you see the chances of a breakthrough?

Is there perhaps even a huge market developing here?

And which companies should be able to benefit?

I look forward to your opinions and points of view in the comments.

Thank you, my dears 😘👓🕶️😎🤓🥸

The Viture Pro XR glasses are currently available from Amazon with an 18% discount. Instead of 549.00 euros, the device costs just 448.99 euros. Over 300 sales in the last few weeks and first place in the "3D glasses" category indicate a high level of interest. The deal is limited in time.

The term XR stands for "Extended Reality". This includes AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality) and everything in between. With XR glasses, digital content is superimposed directly into the field of vision without you being completely immersed in the real world. This creates a mixture of digital and real life.

Compared to classic VR glasses, which send you completely into virtual worlds, XR glasses such as the Viture Pro allow you to see your surroundings - and add screens or information to them. Smart glasses are also part of augmented reality, but usually only show simple content such as notifications or text. The Viture Pro goes much further: a large display, powerful sound, 3D and even a bit of a movie theater feeling.

The Viture Pro XR glasses are currently available from Amazon with an 18% discount - instead of €549.00, they cost just €448.99. According to Amazon, the device has been ordered over 300 times in the last few weeks. The offer only runs for a short time and can end at any time.

Bestseller no. 1: Are the Viture Pro XR glasses worth it?

The Viture Pro XR glasses are like a portable movie and work screen for your nose. The integrated micro-OLED display projects a virtual image of up to 135 inches, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of over 1000 nits - enough to be able to see anything outside. Thanks to the electrochromic film, ambient light can be almost completely blocked out, which significantly improves the viewing experience.

The glasses are connected via USB-C. Many devices are supported - such as iPhone 15 and 16, Android smartphones, MacBooks, PCs, Steam Deck or the Nintendo Switch. With the SpaceWalker app, you can even use multiple virtual screens, play 3D videos or prepare presentations. So if you want, you can work just as well as watch Netflix or play games.

The glasses weigh just 77 grams, come with an aluminum housing and titanium hinges that look robust. Harman is on board for the sound - this ensures surround sound without the surroundings being able to hear. Content is not visible from the outside, which allows for privacy on the train or in a café.

In a nutshell:

Virtual 135-inch Full HD display with 120 Hz and up to 4000 nits peak brightness

Compatible with iPhone 15/16, Android, Mac, PC, Steam Deck, Switch

Electrochromic film blocks almost 100% of ambient light

SpaceWalker app for multi-screen, 3D and productivity tools

Integrated Harman sound, 77 gram weight, full metal housing

The Viture Pro XR glasses are supplied with: the glasses, a USB-C cable, a carrying case and, depending on the version, adapters. They are controlled via small buttons on the temples. If you like to watch series, play games or work on the move, this is a pretty flexible gadget - which is currently also available at a significantly lower price.

Meta presents smart glasses with sporting ambitions. $META (+0,86%)

More battery life and a new camera: Meta has presented new smart glasses in cooperation with the eyewear brand Oakley. They are not a revolution. But they show the company's aspirations.

The Facebook parent company Meta is preparing to expand its position as the market leader in smart glasses and is extending its collaboration with the eyewear group EssilorLuxottica. The companies have been jointly marketing smart glasses in the Ray-Ban design and brand since 2021. In a blog post on Friday, Meta claims to have sold "millions" of pairs of glasses to date. They now apparently want to build on this success with a new model from the Oakley brand.

I think the ones from Ray Ban and Meta are much better, and I'm thinking of buying them just to try them out.

I think the future is promising in this respect, but judging by the pictures, the model presented still seems a bit clunky

Have you ordered the Ray Ban now?

I'm looking forward to your presentation.
I wanted to invest in Meta anyway.
Thank you already

@Tenbagger2024 I also have Meta glasses. Super practical and easy to use. Great photos, great sound. AI function unfortunately only in English so far. If you're not filming, the glasses don't stand out as "smart" glasses.

@meisterrocco
That sounds good. And do you believe that the glasses could catch on?
immagine del profilo
@Tenbagger2024 I come from a family of opticians in a rural area (father and brother opticians) and we have had these glasses in our range since the launch. Unfortunately, they have been rather slow sellers so far.
I think the older generation doesn't have the confidence to use such glasses and the younger generation doesn't want such an expensive frame including lenses with strength.

As I said, I'm happy with the glasses and see a future for the market. So far, however, the hype has been limited.

@Tenbagger2024 Unfortunately, there is one negative point. The glasses are currently only IP5 waterproof. So you have to clean them carefully and not throw them into an ultrasonic tank, for example.

Such glasses are out of the question for me. Not because I don't want them, but because I wear glasses.

To be able to wear these glasses I would have to take my glasses off, which in turn means that I can no longer see much.

I think the majority of people who wear glasses see it that way. As long as you have to take off your real glasses to put them on, this is out of the question for me. It would be invasive if these glasses could be produced in visual acuity. This would allow spectacle wearers to wear them without restrictions.

@Laro
Thank you dear,
And I could imagine that it should also become a market for opticians like Fielmann $FIE etc. to offer the glasses with visual acuity
immagine del profilo
@Tenbagger2024 These companies that design and manufacture the glasses would only have to team up with opticians. Something would certainly come of it.

The advantage of this would be that more sales could be generated, as the group of people who were previously unable to wear such glasses because they need them would be brought on board.

So even I would invest in such an area because I would be convinced that this area would then grow more strongly and sales would increase.

But so far there have been no considerations or anything else. Who knows what the future holds. Back then, people who wore glasses wouldn't have thought that sunglasses would be available in prescription, but now they are. So just wait and see what the companies come up with and whether this is possible at some point.

@Laro The glasses are also available with sea power, with Ray Ban/ Meta glasses these are available from -6 to +4

@Ph1l1pp ok, I didn't know that. Funnily enough, they are rarely or never published. I'll find out what it's like there and where the prices are. Thanks for the info.

@Ph1l1pp Sounds great, but in addition to the thickness, the individual cut is also relevant. Do they do that too?
immagine del profilo
@Tenbagger2024 I assume that third-party providers will eventually position themselves there.
There were no prescription inserts for the Meta Quest and Oculus for ages until third-party providers started selling lenses.

Suddenly you could also order light prescription lenses.

Of course, with Prisma inside, there will still be individual solutions, but for "simple" prescriptions, I can well imagine that you can simply buy them.

@Staatsmann
So I also see a market here in working life.
Of course, the right software is needed here.
In some cases, this also makes long flights superfluous.
Exhibitions and gallery visits can be visited virtually.

@Tenbagger2024 Yes, exactly.
I saw a report a few years ago that showed how doctors use VR to plan and practice difficult operations. Including various scenarios.

They also repeatedly criticized the fact that there was simply no individualization with reasonable visual acuity.

It's not for me and I think it will remain a niche product.

I also wear glasses, but so far I can't see any sensible use for them.

Full VR glasses, i.e. the fat things with a battery and all that, at least have the purpose of allowing you to play immersive games or watch movies, etc.

But for these lightweight glasses that can somehow display notifications or have very reduced navigation systems etc... I don't currently see them as really useful in everyday life.

AlexiBexi on YouTube regularly tests technology and also such glasses in the meantime. 😅

When the first glasses that looked like glasses came out, wearers were sometimes physically attacked because nobody wants to be filmed or tracked illegally.
For me, these products are currently still unappealing, but I assume that this may change somewhat over the years, because the possibilities are already very convincing.

Another consideration: Yet another gadget that will nail me in a tech product universe. It will become increasingly difficult/expensive to break away from a manufacturer. Is that what I want?

AR is definitely a very good project for the future. HUDs in cars are already great today and let's be honest: circuit diagrams for electricians, construction plans in building, previews in architecture, additional information in cars even closer, additional information in tourism ... there are so many good areas of application.
