Employees Shares

Hello everyone,

The company where I work $DG (+0,1%) offers employee shares every year. The offer is very attractive in my opinion, you get free shares after a 3-year vesting period.

After the 3 years, you can sell anything you want. If you have to sell earlier than 3 years, you can, but of course you lose the free shares.

I'm still a dual student (civil engineering) and have "only" subscribed to 20 shares, but I'll fill up to 100 in the future if possible.

How is it with you? Do you have an employee share program and if so, what does it look like? Why do you participate, or why not?

I would be happy to hear what other share programs look like :)

and with such a great company too! Very nice!

All in. But you pay tax on the benefits granted and carry the lump sum risk in the depot for years.

Knock yourself out, you lucky bastard, buying shares for €8,000 and getting €8,000 on top is practically a 100% return in one go plus long-term growth - give it to him! 🚀

I work at $SIKA and can only dream of that... But I'm happy for you! The whole thing really sounds like quite an attractive offer.

@GuenDolf Is there no employee share program at $SIKA or is it unattractive?

I don't know whether there is generally no employee share program. But at least in Germany there is none...

I work at Evonik. We are given a third of the shares up to a certain amount. This year we were able to buy a maximum of 58 shares. You don't always know exactly beforehand because you have to decide in advance to invest the maximum amount. As the share prices were generally low this year, I had an entry price of €12.30 with the discount. Very worthwhile, but the lock-up period is quite long.

@DonPromillo How long is the blocking period?

Should be 2.5 years. But it doesn't really matter. The share will be held for a long time, at least that's the plan.

@DonPromillo Which location are you at? I used to work there in Marl and I still have some.

I work at $VOW3, where, as far as I know, the employee shares were abolished a long time ago and there has been no offer since then

@Speggi It's a shame that you don't take your employees with you on the Group's journey

I work at $AIR, the best and smallest offer is buy 5 shares + get 5 shares for free, the more you buy the less you get in percentage terms on top.
Your company's offer is really very good.

@Malte123 *I'm taking part because, with the discount at least, it's very worthwhile👍

@Malte123 How often can you buy the 5 + 5 shares?

@Age65 once a year. I think the maximum is 100 pieces but then there are "only" 30 on top. But that can change every year
My husband works at $[EOAN:DE000ENAG999](EOAN:DE000ENAG999) and can choose from three share packages every year. The company adds €360 and he can buy shares for €500, €750 or €1000 (don't know the exact amounts). Since he has been doing this from time to time for 13 years, but we have only been investing ourselves for about 3 years, the employee shares are a very large lump in our portfolio (13%).

@Juli15 then sell it!
I will sell everything immediately after the 3-year lock-up period and switch to an ETF. At the same time, of course, I'll still buy the employee shares every year
@[Age65](Age65) we could think about it or do the math. They also pay good dividends.

If I can recall, after a certain number isn't worth to buy more shares from the Vinci share program (can't remember the exactly number)
I was buying 20-50 shares per year when I was working there... (Vinci Airports)

I also had one once, at $HBGRY. I was able to buy them at a preferential price of €33 with a 5-year lock-up period (market price was around €40). Should be for retirement provision. They are now at €0.97. Sold them about 2 years ago for €1.30. This example is certainly not representative, but nevertheless shows that it can also go in the other direction...

@Harley63 That's a shame, of course. $DG is fortunately a very solid company whose history goes back to the 19th century. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't participate in the share program either.
Of course, nobody has a glass ball, but it is very unlikely that a total failure could be imminent

@Age65 Keep both fingers crossed for you 👍

A little story from life ...
The head of REWE at an MDAX company is asked:
"Do you also buy shares from the employee program?"
Answer: "Do I have BLÖD written on my forehead? I know how the figures are calculated here."
🤔🙈🫣
Cool contribution!
