Surgical Science Sweden AB is a Sweden-based company that provides virtual reality simulators for evidence-based laparoscopic and endoscopic training. The systems include LapSim, EndoSim and TeamSim training. Each training combines graphics and cognitive instruction, incorporates touchscreen navigation and features tactile feedback technology. LapSim training consists of laparoscopic exercises ranging from basic navigation to advanced suturing; EndoSim endoscopic exercises range from scope handle and tube functions to loop reduction. TeamSim includes procedure modules for training in a real operating room environment and helps build team communication skills in crisis and routine situations. The company is debt free and is growing rapidly due to the licensing process (see TÜV). Doctors have to undergo training at regular intervals in order to be allowed to perform procedures such as endoscopy. In my view, this is a market of the future.
