Deutsche Bahn plans to buy over 3000 new buses

$8TRA (+1,73 %)

Hello my dears,

After the boss's post @SAUgut777 about the delivery of BYD electric buses has caused much outrage. And from the press spokesman @Dividendenopi also no correction was made

Is this now coming from press spokesperson two?

The electric buses from BYD are in fact only a small number. Which also do not come from China, but from the plant in Hungary.

However, the majority of the buses were ordered from Traton.

As you can see from the report.

I would like to apologize once again for any confusion. Also on behalf of the boss.

Deutsche Bahn not only operates trains, but also thousands of buses. In the coming years, the Group plans to buy numerous new vehicles from MAN - and also from a Chinese manufacturer.

13.12.2025, 10.33 a.m.

Deutsche Bahn is ordering more than 3,300 new buses for the next few years. The main supplier will be Munich-based manufacturer MAN, which is expected to supply the majority of the order. "A smaller fleet of electric intercity buses will be supplied by the Chinese manufacturer BYD from its production facility in Hungary," announced Deutsche Bahn. This will involve just under 200 units.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the cost of the buses is more than one billion euros. The framework agreements have a term of six years. The buses are to be delivered between 2027 and 2032.

Largest order in MAN's history

This is the largest bus order in the company's history, both for Deutsche Bahn's regional transport division and for the main supplier MAN. "The new framework agreement with Deutsche Bahn is a historic procurement order," says MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp. "The fact that a significant proportion of the vehicles will be fully electric impressively underlines the contribution that Deutsche Bahn and MAN are making to the sustainable transformation of public transport." However, the package also includes combustion engines and hybrid models.

"The long-term contracts guarantee that we will always have modern vehicles and can develop them further in close cooperation with the manufacturers," said the new DB Regio CEO Harmen van Zijderveld.

According to DB, all buses offer USB ports on the seats so that passengers can charge their cell phones and smartphones on the move. Specially upholstered seats are designed to ensure comfort on cross-country journeys. In addition, all new solo and articulated buses are air-conditioned; the electric buses reportedly have air conditioning systems with a climate-neutral refrigerant and do not require additional fossil fuel heating. For road safety, all new buses are equipped with LED headlights, cornering assistants and reversing cameras, among other things.

MAN has often supplied buses to the railroads

With around 561 million passengers in 2024, DB Regio is the largest provider of bus transport in Germany. Every day, an average of 1.5 million people in Germany travel on DB Regio buses.

MAN has already supplied many buses to Deutsche Bahn in the past - according to the company, almost 5,000 have been supplied for urban and interurban transport over the past 15 years. DB Regio, the regional transport subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, operates numerous buses throughout Germany.

In recent days, fueled by media reports, there has been speculation about a much larger delivery from the Chinese manufacturer BYD. SPIEGEL reported around 700 BYD vehicles, but Deutsche Bahn denied this figure. According to the SPIEGEL report, DB Regio has ordered electric buses from BYD for the first time in 2021.

Well, you have to put it into perspective. It's about 5% of the total order, i.e. 150 of the 3000 buses.

@Multibagger
That's right. And the outrage is huge

@Tenbagger2024 but only because they are Chinese. If it were an Israeli company, people would ask why only 5%? After all, we have something to make up for. 😉

The railroads shouldn't buy buses, they should make sure that the trains run :(
