Hello everyone,

Something completely different that has little to do with investing:

I take the train to work.

On the journey, I often notice that older people (30+, no offense meant ^^)

playing games on their smartphones & tablets...

Of course everyone is allowed to do what they want, I just think it's a shame that you don't have anything better to do on the train at that age...

(I, for example, read books for further education, inform myself about investments, listen to "meaningful" podcasts, manage my finances etc...)

Of course there are also people who do similarly meaningful things, I don't want to say that.

I don't want to praise myself or anything...

I see people in suits who look like they are bankers, lawyers or the like...who then play Candy Crush on their cell phones ^^

Since there are a lot of people here in the community with a high net worth/income, I wanted to ask if you do the same? (Maybe it's a secret tactic and I should do it too!)

Has anyone else ever noticed this?

(Like I said, no stress, no criticism, live & let live..just interested)

Depending on what kind of job you have and how stressful it is, you may simply not feel like dealing with anything on the train in the evening and be happy when you can play a game.

Maybe they have to continue working at home or have someone to look after or whatever and those few minutes on the train are for the break.

And even if you want to study, you might simply not be able to take anything in. When I'm on the train in the evening, I also read this and that and then after five minutes I think to myself that I'm no longer receptive and have no idea what I've just read.

And then, of course, there are those who are happy with their lives as they are and really have nothing better to do.

I spend almost 9 hours at work, have three children at home and need my computer for my further education. That means I use my iPad for games when I have the time.

But here's another thing. The way you present it, you're implicitly questioning these people's hobby. Is that how you want your hobbies to be judged? Or even worse: is your life so serious that you don't have any hobbies? That would be very sad.

Life is not just about Ora et labora. You also have to live 🙃 Please never forget that, because otherwise you'll be one of the older ones and you'll realize that your life has passed you by.

So the comment with the minimum made me want to eat lunch 🤣...

As some people have already written here: Some people just need it to switch off after a stressful day, or to relieve their boredom on the way to work.

Just because someone wears a suit doesn't mean they have to do something 24/7 for MinDSeT reasons.

And a little tip from an "old" 30-year-old: You can't eat money, it doesn't replace friends and memories that you can and should collect in your early 20s.

I do it however I feel like it.
Sometimes I read a book on the way to or from work, sometimes I listen to music and sometimes I just play solitaire on my phone or watch a series on my tablet. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Who cares?
Live and let live.
(I'd be more concerned that you're looking at other people's screens, because you shouldn't be interested in that. Just a private matter. 🤷🏼‍♂️)

And the mindset thing is another one of those things that people like to spread via social media.
Just because I prefer to watch a series on the train or read a novel about dragons instead of reading the latest success coaching from Bodo Schäfer doesn't mean my mindset is wrong or questionable.
Not everyone is only focused on success, wealth and the like, because even at the age of under 30, I know that there are much, much more important topics in life than mindset, further education and the like.

Incidentally, the "meaningful" podcasts are also mostly just the circlejerk of some people who like to listen to speeches.

How do I know that? I used to work in the industry of these "mindset business coaching mentor circlejerk" people.
They talk a bit pompously into their microphone, think they're just spouting fortune cookie slogans and are happy about anyone who is stupid enough to pay €5,000 for coaching or buy a book that a ghostwriter has cobbled together.
(This is an extreme exaggeration and I know that there are good coaches out there).

They just don't know any better, bad mindset. I read so many books without taking the train (sometimes hard to find time)
On the train is probably the best thing you can do.
It's not even hard to be better than the others, most people are not willing to walk the extra mile and read good books on the train or before sleeping, it's just great!
Keep going :)

P.s. Did you know that Candy Crush Saga is blizzard Entertainment's best-selling game?

I read my Handelsblatt on the train and post stuff on getquin 😉. And I travel first class because of my wealth and the dividends I receive. In first class, everyone has their notebook in front of them, typing up reports or talking far too loudly in phone meetings. 🤗

For us, it's "off to work" 😅

But you only see a short period of time in people's lives, maybe they just don't want to do anything demanding before or after work and just play. You don't know if they do what you do on the train in the evening before going to sleep.

I (30+) sometimes thought too much about my finances and wanted to acquire too much knowledge. At some point, my head was so closed that I couldn't think about anything else. At some point you drive yourself crazy. That's not the right way either. You have to find a middle way. When I was still taking the train to work, I sometimes just looked out of the window and didn't think about anything.
30+ need to give their heads a break sometimes. May the force be with you my young padawan

I understand & feel you. Most people can't even live without social media. I prefer to look out of the window, enjoy the moment or talk to people. You're doing the right thing and keep it up, because it's still your "own way". One of my big drives is not to be like you listed in the text above 🙂💯

I have to deal with finance all day as an accountant, so I spend my evenings doing undemanding things to switch off. My investment consists only of the All World ETF.

I prefer to look out of the window when I'm on the train.
In the museum too, by the way.
