Hello my dears,
and once again I had an itchy nose.
But because of some of the comments, I refrained from entering.
Maybe I should listen to my nose more in future. 🙈😂
Nippon Electric Glass Co, Ltd (head office: Otsu, Shiga, Japan; President: Akira Kishimoto; "NEG") has developed D2 Fiber and started selling it. This new low dielectric constant optical fiber is essential for advanced semiconductors that enable high-speed and high-performance communications in AI servers and data centers.
D2 Fiber significantly reduces signal loss and power consumption
.
The demand for substrate materials for high-speed and high-performance communication in AI servers and data centers is growing rapidly, making the expansion of supply capacity an urgent challenge. To meet this strong demand, NEG used its long-standing expertise in glass composition to develop the D2 fiber and has now started distribution.
We have already supplied numerous specialty glass products to the fast growing high power semiconductor market and will serve the strong demand for glass fibers from various directions by providing our products
.
Properties of the D2 fiber
NEG's D2 fiber achieves the world's lowest dielectric loss factor - 0.0017 tanδ at 10 GHz (NEG's own measurement) - among the so-called "second generations" of low dielectric constant optical fibers and offers the following advantages:
Low dielectric properties (low dielectric loss factor):
D2 fiber reduces transmission losses and enables high-speed and high-performance communications, contributing to improved performance in AI servers and data centers.
Heat reduction and energy saving:
D2 fiber reduces heat generation caused by communication losses, thereby lowering cooling requirements and power consumption. It supports the sustainable operation of energy-intensive AI infrastructures.
Applications
- AI server motherboards
- Substrates for high-frequency communication devices
- Semiconductor package substrates etc.
Future development
NEG will supply yarn to fiberglass fabric manufacturers, ensuring stable availability to meet the increasing global demand. Product evaluations by customers have already been completed and NEG will continue to work with its customers to further expand market acceptance. In addition, NEG will continue to develop lower dielectric constant and lower thermal expansion optical fibers in line with market trends.
D2 Fiber will be exhibiting at SEMICON Japan 2025 from December 17-19, 2025 in Tokyo Big Sight at booth E5432 (East Hall 5).
