So these tax concerns really go too far, why not simply lay off 80% of government employees if the majority of voters want it that way?

No taxes = no infrastructure, no police, no fire department, no subsidies (agricultural diesel and energy price brakes send their regards), no protection of livelihoods, less access to education (only the rich can then afford it), etc.
Good thing we have taxes :)
