❌ Why investing in companies like British American Tobacco is ethically unacceptable

$BATS (+1%)

British American Tobacco (BAT) is one of the largest tobacco companies in the world - and is emblematic of an industry whose business model is based on addiction, disease and environmental destruction.

Investing in companies like BAT supports a business model based on addiction, disease and environmental destruction. It is high time that ethical criteria were given more weight in the financial world. Capital should not flow where it causes damage - but where it shapes the future.

It's just as bad as those vegans who want to convert you all the time.

I love my $BATS investment more than anything and I don't feel any moral distortions. On the contrary, investing in successful companies is the best way to achieve financial independence 👍🤩

@Cato_Bamboo I feel the same way

@Cato_Bamboo It is an essential characteristic of morally reprehensible actions that they take place without a sense of moral condemnation.

The greatest crimes were accompanied by a clear conscience. 😈

So: your clear conscience may not be the best reason to invest in $BATS.

Ethics = effect ÷ feeling

You've already written the same text about Altria. Please try the moralizer on Instagram. You'll get more attention there.

Everyone is welcome to decide for themselves. I don't need someone to play on my conscience or tell me what to consume or invest. Anyone who runs around like that in real life has no friends. Trying to do it on the Internet just shows that you are a poor wretch

The financial padawans of getquin are only interested in returns and profits. So a post like that won't really do any good here and you don't need to tell a financial Sith Lord like me that either. Everyone goes their own way and has their own morals. For example, I don't directly buy any armaments, tobacco or questionable healthcare companies myself, but they are indirectly included in my world-etf. To forgo extra returns now and take an esg etf with a higher TER is not an option for long-term wealth accumulation!

That's bad.
That's exactly what I don't like.
Picking out one area and acting like a moralizer...

Then please take a look at your own backyard. How do you make sure that you are not invested in exactly that with all your ETFs?

Then you'd better sell your shares in the Msci World and the Stoxx600 where BAT is included 😂 You speak with forked tongue my sporting friend 🐍
