Pepsi earnings: boring stock, big warning?

$PEP (-2.11%) reports this week, and I think it’s more important than it looks.

Pepsi is not just about soda.

It’s a consumer health check:

• Are people still accepting higher prices?

• Are volumes recovering?

• Can margins hold while consumers trade down?

• Is the “defensive stock” narrative still valid?

The key issue for PepsiCo is North America, especially snacks and beverages. If consumers keep pushing back on prices, the pricing power story becomes weaker.

And that matters beyond Pepsi.

Because if a company with brands like Pepsi, Lay’s, Doritos, Gatorade and Cheetos struggles to protect volumes, it says something about the consumer.

For me, this earnings call is less about hype…

and more about whether defensive stocks can still defend.

@MikeUpegui On the monthly chart, the price is now pretty much at the EMA200. I think the price will go deeper and then bounce up again.
