SEALSQ, the new Rocket Lab?

In the last few days I have opened a larger position in SEALSQ $LAES (+0.9%) in the last few days. I currently feel a bit like I did in spring 2024, when I first invested in Rocket Lab $RKLB (+0.79%) invested for the first time. The companies have nothing to do with each other, of course, but I think the situation is very similar at the moment.

Rocket Lab was worth around €1.5-2 billion in spring 2024 and the share price was always around €4. At that time, they were already technologically outstanding, had grown strongly, were sitting on a mountain of cash and were generally operating in a market that was set for huge growth. Nevertheless, they tended to be ignored in the press, analysts were always skeptical about the operating business and only a small retail bubble was interested in the company. The entry was riskier back then than it is today, but it paid off.

Now we come to SEALSQ. The company is worth around €700m and the share price is around €4. They are technologically outstanding (first PQC semiconductors, Quantum-Silicon, Sovereign Quantum, satellite ....), are growing strongly, are sitting on a mountain of cash (400m +) and generally operate in a market that is set for enormous growth (and will soon be required by law everywhere). They are by no means ignored in the press, instead they are increasingly reporting on the latest milestones. Analysts are bullish but still largely skeptical because quantum computing always feels so far away, but that's wrong. Quantum computing is on the rise and security precautions must be taken immediately, keyword: harvest now, decrypt later (collect all data now to crack it later). Once again, only a small retail bubble is involved. And just as Rocket Lab was misunderstood as a launch company, SEALSQ is misunderstood as a pure PQC company. But the latest acquisition announcements in particular make it clear that this could not be more wrong. With the planned acquisition of Quobly, SEALSQ is investing in a trend that could already make most quantum computers superfluous. It is about quantum silicon, i.e. quantum semiconductors. These do not require deep-frozen laboratories or anything similar; they are simply manufactured in the existing semiconductor infrastructure. These quantum semiconductors will very probably make quantum computers superfluous in most cases. In other words, everything that does not require infinite computing power.

Do you also see the parallels? Does anyone already know the company? Have you invested? Maybe I'll do a bigger presentation again soon :)

I had it on my radar for the India deal, will be adding it to my portfolio soon.

@Darkwingduck I just got in for €3.94.

Thanks for reminding me. I had it on my radar last year as a Quantum alternative. All in all, there is a lot of hype in the sector, so it is much more relaxed overall and a core requirement is of course the issue of security and encryption.

@All-in-or-nothing You said in another comment that you have dealt with them before. What is your view of the company now?

@capital_captain_2693 what I find charming here: could play an absolutely key role in quantum security, including a pronounced first-mover advantage in some sub-sectors. The cash cushion is helpful, but the cash burn is also significant. If real, broader adaptations can be achieved here, things could really take off.

looks really exciting! I'm now thinking about it! Thanks for your great contribution!

I also see this as an exciting alternative, my fingernails are already itching :) Thanks for the great report!

10x for the idea! Can you share your thoughts on the balance sheets? I see a difference in the revenue. RKLB was producing YoY revenue growth while this one does not.

@Dedp00l revenue growth is expected at +100% this year. Backlog is around 200mio. Will grow when they expand more.

I've been invested for a long time and have already partially sold and realized some profits before it went downhill. I'm also considering increasing my position again

I'm not familiar with it, but I'll definitely take a look. Thanks for the idea

@Chris98_ Have had the company on my watch for some time. But lost sight of it somewhat due to the high volatility. The story sounds good at first, but I can't assess it. Sales for this year are estimated at around 34m and should increase to almost 50m next year. Net profit is still negative -13.50m and will be reduced to -8.7m next year. No information on free cash flow can be found so quickly. The KUV has been reduced enormously, but is still around 6.4. There is risk, but also great opportunities. I think @EpsEra once wrote something about this here. I myself play the topic of quantum technology via $GOOGL and $FEIM

I opened a small position in November, which is slightly down. I think I will add to it again.

What do you actually think? @Shiya

@PikaPika0105 I haven't looked into it yet, but it seems interesting. However, I don't have any cash for a position at the moment.
Maybe I'll go in with a small position in the next few months. The share is definitely on my watchlist now.

One question for all. What do you know about quantum tech, its capatibilities and potential realistic use cases?
profile image
@Routine123 just the existence of quantum computers will require us to invest in PQC. Real use cases for quantum computers are heavy calculations for example in supply chains or protein modeling. There will be a lot of quantum cloud services. Also the integration of AI in quantum computing opens many new doors. Maybe we will finally see real AGI or even ASI.

@PikaPika0105 I am coming from tech world and have better understanding that most retail investors, however I have not seen any tangible use case so far, so am skeptical regarding enormous potential. Don't get me wrong, this is hot topic, and yes you are buying future, but I am wondering is market/world ready for another buzzword. We aint out of AI bubble at this level, have power constrains for search on steroids that gets incested with each new data being crunched, which, is so rarely mentioned because doesn't fit this narrative, yet, this one is opening. Just a food for thought.
