Difference between alphabet (A) and (C)

Hello there,

I have a question about the alphabet share. Apart from the voting rights, is there a difference between (A) $GOOG (-0.84%) and (C) $GOOGL (-0.64%) ? I would like to make an initial purchase today or in the next few days and am not sure which of the two I should trade. Thank you in advance for the Antworten🤝🏼

It makes no difference to the small investor. Buy the one that is cheaper.

Alphabet's Class A shares (GOOGL) carry voting rights, while Class C shares (GOOG) do not. Therefore, GOOG tends to trade at a slight discount compared to GOOGL. Apart from the voting rights, the two share classes are similar - both give you an equal stake in Alphabet.

Why is class A cheaper right now? But the voting rights thing is true, of course.

Thanks for the dips, Donald.

The A shares should actually be valued higher than the C shares due to their voting rights. However, this has reversed since around 2020. Since then, C shares have tended to trade higher than A shares, mainly due to share buybacks of C shares by Google.
