Airbus sells

Reducing concentration risk a bit. I’ll make another, more significant reduction early next year, once the three-year holding period for the employee shares is over. Airbus still accounts for 17.5% of my portfolio.

For me, it's actually 25%; I've been buying MA stock for 3 years now. I'll end up selling them off eventually, even though it's a good stock.

@Malte123 Yeah, that's why—of course, you're always happy to take a 40% discount. But I also sell things regularly, even when I buy that much.

I'm a little jealous. Not of the employee stock, but of the fact that you work at Airbus. As an engineer, I've always found the company incredibly exciting.

@Malte123 Oh, it varies—I've had everything from 15 to 41 shares, and then there were the ones I was given as gifts!

@MrKurt89 Yes, it's technically very interesting, and on top of that, it's a booming industry. All of that together really fosters a strong sense of identification with the employer.

To me, Airbus is actually a company with a strong moat and good long-term prospects. That’s why the sale surprises me a bit. Was the reason really just concentration risk, or do you also see fundamental risks at Airbus right now?

@RobHood10 I feel the same way. From what I’ve been hearing, they’re investing and expanding, and ramping up production bit by bit. But sometimes I worry whether the suppliers can keep up with all of this. Even if it all takes longer, the duopoly and their technical superiority will still keep aircraft orders pouring in just as they have been. The risk, of course, is if COMAC aircraft receive type certificates in India, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. That’s because about 25% of Airbus’s aircraft go to those regions.
