Very nice post. If I may ask: in your scenarios, the tenant has the edge, but if you read studies, the owner is always the wealthier one in the end. Did I miss that this was mentioned? In reality, the owner's savings behavior away from the property seems to be much more geared towards wealth accumulation

@Schuckinator Yes, this is usually due to the "positive compulsory savings contract". The buyer must put the money into the property. The tenant can also squander the difference. A tenant therefore needs more discipline than a buyer. This article is the second part of the series. I go into this in the first part of the series (linked in the post above or here: https://getqu.in/AREsQB/ ). In addition, many Germans are afraid of shares. Tenants are only better off if they consistently invest their money in the stock market and earn a normal market return. Very few tenants do this either. More on this in part 3 of the series, which is also linked in the article.
Apart from that, you always have to differentiate between cause and effect in such studies. Are property owners wealthier or are wealthy people more likely to buy property?

@DonkeyInvestor Thanks for your feedback. I will definitely take a closer look at the other parts durchlesen☺️
Regarding your final question: my gut feeling is that the initial wealth makes little difference to the desire to own a home. At least in the past, people with low assets simply saved and worked very hard and disciplined in order to be able to live in their own home. With the result that they eventually belong to the wealthier group
However, it is quite possible that the trend is different today.
But that's just a gut feeling
