MATT remains (as it did in May) relatively defensively positioned, as energy and commodities were still showing strong momentum. However, these have now fallen significantly further, as reflected in the relatively weak performance. Unfortunately, emerging markets were very volatile and thus barely generated any returns.
At the moment, it looks as though the strategy will switch completely to “risk-on” mode for the first time next month (July 3). At that point, in addition to small caps and emerging markets, the S&P 500 and WorldExUS will also be included.
This makes July a very exciting month for MATT.
