Madness...!

When I was 24, my account balance was -2,000 euros. I had completed a top education and was already earning a solid salary. But my financial education was very limited and focused on consumption as much as possible. My girlfriend at the time kept pointing out to me that what I was doing was not entirely sustainable.

But it wasn't until I started looking at the bigger expenses in life, such as a house, that it gradually clicked for me. You need staying power and a high savings rate to be able to afford something like that.

In 2017, I radically changed my life and threw all unnecessary consumer spending overboard in order to find out what I really need to live. My savings rate quickly reached four figures a month and my current wife also picked up the ball.

We started with real estate investments until I discovered my love for the capital market in 2020 with a EUR 250 savings plan in ETFs. The real estate flips took a lot of work, time and energy. But in the end, they accelerated our wealth accumulation once again.

But in terms of portfolio building, I'd like to share what I've learned.

In January 2020, we started with a small savings rate. Then came the well-known flash crash in March 2020. I spent a whole night reading like a madman because I felt I had to invest now. I was able to reallocate a few thousand euros in the short term and invest in shares with strong timing (Amazon, Cisco, Munich Re, BASF,...).

As the shares all rose again quickly, I thought I had understood the principle. If there's a fire, put money in, wait and good.

Of course, greed got the better of me...

Wirecard and a Shitcoin then quickly provided me with the necessary learnings. Once 700 euros and once 900 euros were wiped out within hours as a total loss.

But even though it was clear to me that I would be better off with ETFs, I kept wanting to know more and thought about many stock presentations on the net. Oh yes, she'll be a tenbagger... That was never the case.

Fortunately, I got my act together.

It took my portfolio just under 1 year to break 10k. About 4 years to break 100k. Only a year and a half more to break 250k and, due to the sale of an apartment to shift into ETFs, 400,000 euros have now fallen...

A sum I dreamed of when I was 50. It has now been achieved... at 33... 🙏

When I first went to getquin or Thomas von F. or Sumit and saw portfolios like that, I didn't expect it to be possible.

So, no matter where you are today. Ten years ago I was at -2,000 euros.

Believe in yourself and keep at it!

But why so many different etfs?

@dividend_hunter_2229
Historically grown:
First with distributing MSCI World. Then switched to accumulators. Then tried to diversify even more with the SmallCap and finally decided that it should only be AllWorld. I don't want to tackle the old ones with profits in a tax-relevant way.
Now I run the FTSE All-World, the SPDR ACWI IMI and the Ishares ACWI in parallel. Simply personal preference. But don't worry, there won't be any more ;)
With the "smaller" positions, it is also conceivable that they will gradually be transferred to the next generation if the next few years continue to be positive for us.

Top, you've done everything right. Nevertheless, rule number 1 is not to learn how to invest, but how to earn enough money, remain frugal and still be able to treat yourself. Once this has been clarified and you have a four-figure sum per month to invest, knowing how to invest becomes important - and knowing what not to invest in becomes even more important. Especially when you're at the point where you have a good six-figure sum, you no longer need 10x risks in your portfolio. Good luck to you, but it looks like you don't need any luck with your portfolio.

Congratulations! That's exactly how I felt.

In mid-2021 still in the red and addicted to gambling and today a portfolio of over 200K.

In the beginning, I always hoped that I would crack the 24K that was displayed on the TR homepage as a sample 🤣

I think the one coinbase is brilliant 😂👍🏼

@TradingHase
Well, if you're strict, it's actually part of my crypto portfolio. I still have 0.125 BTC and 1 ETH slumbering there. In this context, a Coinbase share was added 😂

Congratulations! Then you are in the same region like me. But I am older. The only difference is that I stay in single stocks. But everybody must find his own strategy. ;-)

A great contribution, thanks for that 👍 but I also have a question. Why did you sell $SAP?

@W_o_W
This was not necessarily a specific decision against SAP, but rather my general departure from individual stocks.
I think a well-organized portfolio of individual stocks is mega cool. However, I decided to go down the ETF route for the following reason:
These days, I look at my portfolio every day and am always looking at the capital market. But what am I investing for?
I want to have a seven-figure portfolio one day and use it to shape my life.
Do I still want to analyze my individual stocks and think about whether they are better or worse than stock XY? So I've thought about what it will probably feel like for me in 20-30 years' time. I think I'll just want to have some peace and quiet with the core of my assets and maybe I'll feel like playing around with a few small satellites.

@Wealth-Accelerator Private Wealth Management or Robo Advisor/Smart Invest?
...I also have a portion that I have managed, and after 1.5 years I am quite satisfied with the result.
@W_o_W May I ask where you are?
I looked at a few stalls and decided that they couldn't do any better 😅😂

@Wealth-Accelerator Both with ING with two strategies, yield (almost 30%) and security (approx. 4%), and with comdirect (approx. 12%), although of course yes, they don't do anything other than different ETFs, but with the whole customs circus from Trump only 5% down and shifted in time. I would have totally missed that and now I only need to look after a few individual stocks + ETFs. But it also costs a lot in fees, but in the end: when the stock market is doing well, we all earn. If something changes quickly, at least part of it is under observation. But I have no idea what it looks like with real private wealth from 500k, there is certainly a different quality and more active management. It just gives me a bit more security if I'm not in getquin for two or three days 😊 as with everything, e.g. cleaning help 😄 you can actually do it yourself...
So I don't really know if this story is true, sounds too good, almost a millionaire out of nowhere

You can think what you want about it. 😂
For 8 years 2x full-time with an average net income of > 6k and a reasonable lifestyle + bought and renovated apartments.
The focus was very much on wealth accumulation. Nevertheless, I never believed it could happen so quickly.

Great, I'm glad to see that people my age have the same "drive". A high savings rate and not too much unnecessary consumer spending are the goal for a large portfolio. When I started in 2017, I had maybe €600 in my account. Through hard work and also "good luck", it grew to over 400k. I'm excited to see where our journey will take us.

Mega strong!
My aim is always to keep fixed costs as low as possible. In between, we treat ourselves to a few things. But when we receive our salary, the savings installment always goes away immediately. That's actually made a really big difference since 2018.
With the current starting situation, the long-term goal is definitely the multimillion. But on the way there, I'll probably start withdrawing a little bit. But for now, full speed ahead. 💪🏼

If your story is true at 33 then congratulations
If not I don't care either 😐

@INOT
Thank you! Almost 34 😅😉
I was really hesitant about sharing this. But I think so many do the same things wrong in their beginnings and so I think my story can be super helpful.

I am also looking forward to selling my first apartments from my private assets tax-free in 9 years' time.

I will then gradually shift the profits.

This will quickly add a few 100k kommen👍🏻

@DividendensammIer I'm keeping my fingers crossed! 💪🏼
