after @M_Bo asked what the bonus shares of $1211 (-3.89%) bonus shares, here is an explanation. Of course also for all those who hold BYD shares or are interested in the company: A shareholder bonus is due in June 2025! 🧧
What will be distributed?
BYD is planning the following package:
- 8 bonus shares per 10 shares held
- 12 capitalization shares per 10 shares (from capital reserves)
- 39.74 RMB cash dividend per 10 shares (~5.49 USD)
➡️ This means for someone with e.g. 1,000 BYD shares:
- 800 bonus shares
- 1,200 capitalization shares
- 3,974 RMB cash dividend
- In the end, you will hold 3,000 shares!
What are bonus shares actually?
Bonus shares are free additional shares that you receive - usually from the company's retained earnings or capital reserves. They increase the number of shares you own without you having to invest any new money. The share price is usually adjusted accordingly, so the total value of the investment remains the same for the time being.
Important note:
Depending on their origin (e.g. whether from retained earnings or capital reserves), bonus or capitalization shares may be treated differently for tax purposes.
Timetable:
- The Annual General Meeting for approval is planned for June 2025
- Payment of the dividend is expected to take place on August 6, 2025
