Sold Okta

I decided to exit $OKTA (-1.6%) .

I bought it as I wanted exposure into cybersecurity and thought that Okta’s valuation was low compared to sector, they were just going GAAP operating income positive, and I though they would overachieve their projections…

I’m selling as they’re not delivering on the growth part and I don’t see the point of holding a stock with a higher valuation than a super company like $GOOG (-0.5%) while having lower growth projections.

Plus I’ll offset some gains with this small loss 👍🏼

@risk_minister_1360 why? I’d like to see your point on it
@Carles I was involved as a developer with a project at a large media organisation to migrate their identity system from a tricky to maintain internally developed one to Okta. Their API, documentation, and support team were all fantastic and the business found it to be well worth the money... they reduced the size of the team from eight people to two!

Now, I appreciate that's just one data point but I believe that they offer a best-in-class product that will grow (yes slowly) but stably over time.

I also have added confidence with the coming wave of AI Agents, and the needs that they are looking to cover around agent identity and authentication. I will admit that this is more of a speculative one, but not an entirely outlandish thesis.

I intend to hold for the coming years as the platform for agents is built out and businesses discover that they can't just have hundreds of these agents in production without a solid identity management platform behind them for oversight and risk management. https://learning.okta.com/first-look-auth-for-genai

@risk_minister_1360 cool, thanks for the inisght. It is always interesting to know personal experiencies with companies, numbers are cold and when you actually have experiencie with it, you can look at the company with different eyes.
I’ve read good things about $OKTA but it has been underperforming in my portfolio for a long time now, that’s why I sold… valuation for a cybersecurity stock is not crazy but I didn’t feel that its growth rate would change over the short/medium term. I’ll keep it on my watchlist!
Thanks 🙌🏼

@Carles no worries - glad it was helpful. I’m sticking at it, down for now but happy to let the thesis play out, if I’m wrong I’m wrong I suppose :)
I like the management as well, they’re not pushing AI hype too hard for example - in fact their CEO is still quite grounded in terms of the medium term reality imho https://www.crn.com/news/ai/2025/okta-ceo-on-what-everyone-s-missing-about-ai-and-software-development
