Attack on Level 4 - BYD invests 14 billion dollars in autonomous driving

attachment

BYD Company Ltd.$1211 (+0%) employs 5,000 people in the development of driver assistance systems and plans to invest more than 14 billion US dollars.

The Chinese car manufacturer has now put together a team of employees to focus on the development of advanced driver assistance systems.

At an event on January 4, 2026, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu announced plans to invest over 100 billion yuan, or around 14.3 billion US dollars, in future intelligent driving technologies.

The company is developing an advanced driver assistance system with the dazzling name "God's Eye", which is equipped with twelve cameras, five millimeter-wave radars and twelve ultrasonic radars.

At the beginning of July 2025, the BYD Company presented the L4 (Level 4) function for autonomous parking of its system and assured full liability for damages in China.

By December 2025, the number of vehicles equipped with BYD's "God's Eye" system exceeded 2.5 million, forming China's largest vehicle cloud database. The driving assistance system generates over 150 million kilometers of driving data every day.

BYD relies on an "AI intelligent agent + world model" solution for development, which uses virtual scenarios to train the system to deal with rare errors.

The company also emphasized that driver assistance systems and intelligent cockpits are at the core of automotive intelligence. In the age of the Internet of Things, cars are no longer just means of transportation, but "intelligent units".

BYD now also installs functions such as drone integration and smart home control in cars.

When will the new 5-year plan in China be officially announced again?
I read somewhere that the subsidies for ev producers are to be cut. Byd is healthy enough to cope with this in my eyes. I remain invested and hope for a great turn around

@Hotte1909 so the general subsidy expired on December 31, 2025 and for extremely cheap models the subsidy was extended until 2027.

Therefore, in my opinion, some manufacturers in China will now gradually disappear from the market or be swallowed up.

Overall, I think BYD is very well positioned and still see the first Q figures as a small stumbling block, but after that, with a further increase in foreign business, we will achieve a good turnaround here. (Geopolitical factors excluded)

Especially as BYD is not just the "car manufacturer" that it is ultimately "only" seen as.

I will remain invested here and keep adding to my individual investments up to the maximum amount.

@SAUgut777 @Hotte1909 This is exactly how it looks. The major financial support for all e-car manufacturers has ended, as the government considers the goal of market leadership by Chinese manufacturers to have been achieved.
There will therefore be a major shake-out of the supplier market in the coming years.
On the German market, the sales figures of Chinese manufacturers have increased by several hundred percent in relation to the time they have been on our market. Of course, this is also due to very low sales figures at the beginning.
Last month, for example, BYD was able to gain a market share of 0.8%. By comparison, well-known brands such as Honda and Mitsubishi have to be content with 0.2% and 0.4% respectively.
MG, which belongs to the SAIC Group, is also gradually increasing its registrations.
These and a handful of other players will manage to survive, the rest will disappear.

Dear S.A.U., now the share just has to pick up in the right direction! Not even overtaking Tesla and now the world's number one producer of EVs has been able to move the share significantly so far..... I'm keeping my fingers crossed 👍

@value_crafter_1628 think you still need a little patience here, but the turnaround will come 🤫😉

They will go through the roof. With the technology and the data - how can that not work in the end? That will also have an impact on the share price, no question (also on Tesla's, only the other way around).

Of course, I am also pleased that there is a cooperation with NVIDIA ...

@Charmin If there is no total geopolitical catastrophe, I think it's only a matter of time and the car business outside China alone is just starting up and they have a lot more in the quiver.
profile image
@SAUgut777 Okay, geopolitics is currently completely out of control - nobody knows what will happen.
profile image
@Charmin That remains the main risk, as with so many others.
profile image
@SAUgut777 But it doesn't matter in the long term. AI will not be stopped by geopolitics ...

I have also been invested with a small position since this week.

@Aktien365 ahhh, I've seen it! Your entry was a green candle last Friday ....😆 Joking aside: I'm confident, welcome on board. I'm also invested myself with a portion (333 shares) and am buying in tranches as my China package strategically envisages. Don't be frustrated, I don't know if this is (was) the bottom yet .... Patience. Good luck 🍀
