I started as a trainee teacher in 2018 (also available for non-teachers) and then on probation in 2020. The probationary period ends in 2023.
I have to say, it's completely different from the private sector (I don't mean the workload). You get a lot of responsibility quite early on and the job is very interesting. As a result, even if you are ambitious, promotion is likely to be slower. However, as a hD you also start quite high up.
