Finally, vacation!

Hi, everyone. After working nonstop for 5.5 months, I finally get a two-week vacation. I’m going on a Mediterranean cruise on the MSC Splendida. I would have preferred to sail on the Legend of the Seas, but that was too expensive for me. It’s definitely good enough for my first cruise. At least I’ll get some rest, and when I get back, I’ll still have three weeks until I have to turn in my thesis. Time for the final sprint then 😅

P.S.: Unfortunately, MSC is a family-run company. And I should have invested in Royal Caribbean back during the pandemic when the stock price was so low🥲

@Get_Rich_or_Die_Tryin Thank you very much. Yeah, it's almost a little too small for me, but it's fine for a start. Next up will probably be the World Europa. As for Royal Caribbean, I'm not sure. The Americans do go a bit overboard, and a lot of their stuff is pretty kitschy, too 😁

I like to travel, but personally, I find cruises absolutely awful. Still, have fun!

@SteelAnacott Thank you very much. Yes, this is my first cruise, and I’m not really warming up to it. It’s nice to discover a new place every day, but it’s also exhausting. You book excursions through the cruise line (which are really well organized), but everything is so tightly scheduled that you don’t have much time to really explore the place. Unless you organize everything yourself—but then you run the risk of missing the ship.

@Alumdria I understand where you’re coming from.

For me, there are several factors:
1. While I can’t constantly keep an eye on my ecological footprint or the working conditions of service staff everywhere I go, there are so many factors involved in cruises that make them out of the question for me.
2. This ties in with the point you mentioned. When I travel to a place, I want to get to know it as well as possible and decide for myself what I do there and when. Being herded through the alleys with a herd of tourists just to end up back on the boat at the end of the day? No, thanks. When traveling or on vacation, I want to set my own pace as much as possible.
3. If I can help it, I avoid large crowds because, in the long run, they just really get on my nerves. 😄

Hope the food on the Splendida is good... I was already on the World Europa this year, and the food there was really crappy😅

@stefan_21 It's okay. The food is mostly lukewarm, and it's not that great either. I was expecting more. The desserts are good, but there's a lot of room for improvement with the rest. I'm even thinking about booking a specialty restaurant next time 😅

@Alumdria Yeah, go for it! The steakhouse really saved the day for us—it was absolutely amazing :D

NCL is really great when it comes to food. I took a cruise on the Viva two years ago—I've never eaten so well 😅, but it was also pretty expensive

@toscho Thank you very much. I just have to write 2 or 3 more chapters—about 2 or 3 pages—and then I’ll be done. Then I’ll go over the grammar and spelling one more time, and I can turn it in. Then all that’s left is the oral defense, where I’ll have to defend it in front of the experts, and the presentation. And the graduation ceremony is in November😄
