The Dutch Ministry of Defence has ordered 785 logistics trucks from Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) as part of the WTB program. The WTB program involves the procurement of swap body systems, tractor units for semi-trailers and wheeled recovery vehicles (Wissellaadsystemen, Trekker-opleggercombinaties and WielBergingsvoertuigen, WTB). State Secretary Gijs Tuinman announced the conclusion of the contract on May 13. Delivery of the vehicles is scheduled for the period 2027 to 2029.
The contract includes the procurement of spare parts, special tools, test equipment and documentation. The equipment to be procured includes mounts and run-flat tires. The latter allow the truck to continue driving in an emergency despite a puncture.
Scope of delivery
IDV announced that the contract includes integrated logistical support for a period of at least 15 years. In addition, a second tranche of a further 785 trucks has been agreed.
As part of the supply contract, IDV will deliver 8×8 and 6×6 military trucks in three versions: 100 tractor units, 97 recovery vehicles and 588 swap body systems with hook lift. Some of the trucks are equipped with a protected cab and self-defense armament for use in high-threat situations. According to IDV, the vehicles are characterized by exceptional mobility, manoeuvrability and reliability. Logistical commonalities across different platforms and with vehicles in many other EU member states facilitate operations.
Manticore
Following the delivery contract for the 12kN Manticore project, in which 1,283 Multirole Tatctical Vehicles (MTV) were ordered six years ago (ESuT reported), IDV was able to book another major order. Around half of the Manticore vehicles have already been delivered. The rest are to follow by 2026.
