BYD extends battery warranty to 250,000 km

BYD $1211 (-0.98%) is now also improving its battery warranty throughout Europe - the Chinese manufacturer had already taken this step in Norway a few weeks ago.

The warranty now extends for eight years or 250,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. Both new and existing customers will benefit from this.

The improvement relates specifically to the guaranteed mileage, which increases from 200,000 to 250,000 km. The warranty period remains the same at eight years.

This means that the increase of 50,000 kilometers will primarily benefit frequent drivers who drive long distances in a short period of time, while the warranty will continue to end after eight years.

Ideally, an average of 31,250 kilometers per year would be possible to make full use of the warranty period.

The longer battery warranty applies to all BYD electric cars and plug-in hybrids, with the exception of the eTP3 electric van, as in Norway.

The battery warranty should not be confused with the basic warranty for the entire BYD vehicle of six years or 150,000 km (which remains as it is), the twelve-year warranty without mileage limit against rusting through and the electric drive warranty of eight years or 150,000 km.

One thing is clear: most e-car drivers will not reach 250,000 kilometers in eight years. The advantage therefore only applies to owners who really drive a lot. This is because the other factors of the guarantee remain the same: in addition to the eight-year term, this also applies to the guaranteed "State of Health" (SOH) of the battery of 70 percent. This means that BYD must replace or repair the battery or otherwise provide a replacement if the battery capacity falls below 70 percent during the warranty period.

"This increase in mileage is intended to further strengthen users' confidence in electric vehicles and applies not only to new cars, but also to all existing BYD models. Owners of a BYD electric vehicle or super hybrid in Europe will therefore automatically benefit from the extended warranty," BYD announced. Specifically, the upgraded warranty applies in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the UK.

What is your opinion on $GELYY? I know the position in the market couldn't be more different than $1211 , but I great room for the upside considering both companies have similar major risks (Chinese EV market saturation and geopolitics).
