In response to European restrictions on Russian oil, Moscow could look for new buyers or cut production to keep prices high. If OPEC does not intervene, its actions will affect the global economy.

As part of the EU's sixth package of sanctions against Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, EU leaders agreed Monday to ban 90% of Russian crude by the end of the year.

In a report Tuesday, Helima Croft, head of global commodity strategy at RBC Capital Markets, said, "The Russian response will definitely require close monitoring."

When U.S. President Joe Biden and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell meet at the White House, it is a sign that the situation is serious. That's because they meet only on rare occasions, such as the inauguration. Meanwhile, the Democrat and the Federal Reserve chairman have already met three times. Because inflation is now higher than it has been in 40 years, reaching 8.3 percent in April.

On Wednesday, Solana fell more than 12% as the blockchain failed for the second time in less than a month.

During the crypto boom last year, investors who had focused primarily on Ethereum began diversifying into Solana and other alternative blockchains.

However, over the past year and a half, the blockchain network experienced repeated outages, highlighting the downside.

Nate Chastain, the former head of product at OpenSea who left the NFT market following an insider trading scandal in September 2021, is now in the crosshairs of U.S. authorities.

Chastain was charged Wednesday with wire fraud and money laundering in connection with trading on confidential information about which non-fungible tokens would appear on OpenSea's home page, the Justice Department said in a press release. The two indictments each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The Justice Department alleges in the press release that Chastain sold "dozens of NFTs" after posting them on the website for two to five times their original price. Chastain concealed his fraud by making these purchases through anonymous digital wallets and anonymous OpenSea user accounts, according to the Justice Department.
