I'm in a similar situation, still waiting on my payroll. Last year, I lost €130/month due to rising living costs, and even with a good salary compared to the median in Spain, it's hard to keep up. Honestly, I'm considering working for another country where salaries match the cost of living better. Hope things get easier for everyone facing this!

@tetrins so the situation in Spain is even worse than in Germany?

@DonkeyInvestor Spain isn’t doing too badly in global numbers. While Germany’s economy contracted by 0.2% in 2024, Spain’s GDP grew by 2.9%... Unemployment in Spain has also dropped significantly, though it remains higher than in Germany (around 11% compared to Germany's 3.9%). But the real issue in Spain lies in career prospects within the private sector. Significant salary increases are rare, limiting long-term growth and motivation for many professionals...

@tetrins unemployment rates cannot be compared easily from country to country, as the statistics are raised differently. Not saying Spain‘s unemployment isnt higher, but it might be a smaller gap (or bigger) than the statistics show currently.
In Germany, we cant even compare to the past numbers, as statistics changed several times in just one decade.

Germany got the same problem like Spain with stagnating salaries. But coming from a higher buying power so it‘s probably less of an issue.
Still got many friends that moved to Switzerland (doctor, engineer) and US (Project manager, IT), Ireland (Google, dont know his profession though, economics background) and Sweden (IT) mostly due to financial reasons.

@KevinE Totally agree! The shadow economy in Spain skews the unemployment stats... unregulated jobs that don’t show up in the data (a big chunk of Spain’s economy is tourism). It helps people get by, but it also means less stability and growth. Salaries and opportunities are still a big issue here, just like you said about Germany.
