1. Lufthansa to hire 10,000 employees
Lufthansa plans to hire 5,000 new employees in the remaining months of this year and next year. The company is primarily hiring staff for ground services at airports and for the cockpits and cabins of Eurowings and Eurowings Discover. The caterer LSG and the maintenance company Lufthansa Technik will also increase their personnel capacities.
For 2022, the team led by Group CEO Carsten Spohr expects an Ebit (adjusted earnings before interest and taxes) of more than 500 million euros. It would be the company's first annual profit since the pandemic began.

2. meta issues bonds for the first time
Facebook parent Meta Platforms (META.O) announced Thursday that it will issue bonds for the first time at a time when the social media company is making massive investments to fund its Metaverse projects.
Meta did not disclose the size of the offering, but said it would use the proceeds for capital expenditures, share buybacks, acquisitions or investments.
Among high-flying megacap technology companies, Meta is the only one with no debt on its books.

Alibaba reported first-quarter earnings Thursday that beat expectations and sent the company's stock soaring. U.S.-listed shares of the Chinese e-commerce giant rose as much as 6%.
Although Alibaba beat estimates, it was the first time in the company's history that it reported flat growth.

In Q2 2022, Bayer's consolidated sales reached €12.8 billion. This corresponds to a year-on-year increase of 18%. Due to price increases, business with the controversial weedkiller glyphosate was particularly good.
