Sale at a loss

Hello everyone,

I am currently considering selling my position in UnitedHealth Group $UNH (-5.23%) at a moderate loss and would like to hear your views on this.

I bought in a few months ago as the company was seen in the past as a defensive healthcare giant with a solid balance sheet, stable cash flow and steady dividend growth. Unfortunately, the share price performance since my investment has been disappointing, partly due to increasing regulatory pressure (Medicare Advantage), rising healthcare costs and the general headwind for the US healthcare segment.

I ask myself: is it worth continuing to be patient here or is it better to realize the losses and reallocate capital to more promising stocks?

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this - how do you see the medium-term prospects for UNH? In your opinion, are there any triggers to watch out for before making a decision?

I would have considered investing the losses in $TMO (-3.23%) or $ZTS (-0.72%) . In my opinion, both are cheaply valued and would fit in with my dividend growth strategy.

Looking forward to a constructive exchange!

If I were you, I would hold on. Back and forth empties your pockets. No investment advice

Don't be so impatient 😉. You're still young and could easily sit it out. Besides, your portfolio looks decent. If we assume 100k and now a weighting of 2.31 or so percent, then we're talking about a book loss of a thousand.... In addition, the dividend yield is now well over 3%. If you plan to realize profits elsewhere, you can sell part of it according to the FIFO principle if the initial purchase was significantly higher, use this partial loss to realize profits elsewhere if necessary and buy the same number of shares at a lower price. Lowers the buy-in, increases the return. Of course, this also depends a little on the trading costs, but in my opinion this is often overestimated

Hi, I saw yesterday that you had -30% at UNH. In contrast to Novo, the sell-off is still moderate at the moment. I hope for a rebounce to 320$ the turn around has to come soon at 230$ otherwise there will be a bad low. Would then feel like the new Bayer. wish me luck

You just have to consider whether there are opportunity costs involved in holding United Health now.

When I look at other strong growth companies, I don't think you have to be bothered with a health insurance company that's hanging on to lawsuits.

UNH will go up sooner or later because it is an indispensable company. For me it's always the same with dividends... Hold until you no longer like the company or find a better one where you want to redistribute. I have enough cash on hand, so I'm buying more diligently

Do you have patience and a long investment horizon? Hold. If enough capital Nevertheless small savings plan on the other stocks

Hello my dear,
I expressed my concerns about health insurance here weeks ago. And I recommended investing in nonlife insurance.
I also said that more and more pharmaceutical companies are jumping on the slimming product bandwagon and that this is creating a pig cycle that will cost Novo market share.
But I find it difficult to say what you should do now.

@Tenbagger2024 maybe I should just save my ETFs after all... Individual shares are probably not for me

Oh, that's nonsense too. You're having fun.
And you've got some good stocks.
Maybe don't bet too much on dividends. Unilever has hardly performed at all in the past, so the question would be what prompted you to include it in your portfolio?
What do you look for in your stock?
How do you go about it?
Take your time with your decisions and think carefully about whether it's the right value right now.
Even if half the community is buying, it shouldn't necessarily be a reason for you to buy.

@Tenbagger2024 My focus is on dividend growth.

@Max095
Why not focus more on growth at a young age?

Hello, what do your basic investments look like?

Just ask yourself: if you had to buy health insurance in the US, would you currently choose $UNH (with all the bad news of their business practices and threat of losing their state license for fraud)?

I sold a few weeks ago, but the reason was the legal uncertainties. I am currently considering buying into another health insurer without these problems. However, it has to be said that I buy very anti-cyclically.
