Alpina started out as a tuner
Alpina's roots go back to the early 1960s: in 1962, Burkard Bovensiepen developed a tuning product for the BMW 1500 that caused a sensation among experts - and was even officially recognized by BMW. As a result, BMW vehicles with Alpina systems received a factory warranty, which cemented the close cooperation early on.
The traditional BMW tuner Alpina from Buchloe in the Allgäu region is now officially part of the Munich-based automotive group. In future, the brand will operate under the name BMW Alpina and will continue to stand for particularly powerful vehicles, high-quality materials and an exclusive range of customization options.
There is also a new visual identity: The brand lettering, based on the asymmetrical shape of the 1970s, will in future be centrally positioned at the rear of Alpina models.
The former BMW tuner from the Allgäu region is now fully integrated into the Group. In addition to performance and luxury, new lettering is also being added to the rear of the vehicles.
The company was officially founded on January 1, 1965 and initially made a name for itself as a tuner and motorsport player. From 1978, Alpina then built its own high-performance cars based on BMW vehicles under the Alpina brand name. An important milestone followed in 1983: Alpina was registered as an official car manufacturer.
Alpina was particularly successful in motorsport in the 1960s and 1970s - even later world stars such as Niki Lauda drove Alpina racing cars.
