I'll write a post about the Ukraine stay...a bit offtopic, but maybe that interests one or the other.

How did I come to go to Ukraine and provide humanitarian aid?

I know a lot of people with military background from my time in the Bundeswehr. Two days after the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian armed forces, a good friend of mine, whom I once met during a joint exercise, called me from Ukraine to say that I should also help and actively fight against Russian soldiers. I even thought about it for a short time, but then I quickly discarded the idea, because I don't care about much, but I do care about my life.

Of course, after that I followed the course of the front daily on the Internet, Twitter, etc.. After a while I decided to provide humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Because of my training as a paramedic in the German Armed Forces, I thought and still think that this was the best solution.

So I quickly packed my bags and got in touch with aid organizations. I was then warmly welcomed at IsraAID and helped to get to Ukraine.

Since then, I have been in Ukraine, working mainly in hospitals and improvised emergency hospitals as a volunteer. The conditions are anything but pleasant and you improvise your way through...but it works. The people here are very warm and happy about every little thing. Even if it is only a bondon, chewing gum or a bag of soup.

Our sleeping place and improvised ambulance is currently a Unimog...it was paid for by the Israeli aid organization and is almost new. We get electricity via equipment from EcoFlow (absolutely awesome stuff) and internet via a Starlink, which is also in the vehicle and can be set up in minutes.

If anyone is interested, I can post pictures here from time to time. Of course, accordingly censored images.

@Der_Dividenden_Monteur The Unimog already has holes (: The Russians shoot specifically at relief workers. But one has become quite accustomed to this here

Old Swede... you have my utmost respect. You need something? Money for new equipment? Is there any other way to support you and your colleagues? I'm twice as happy to donate to someone who is on the ground and knows where the money is right and in good hands. At the end of the day, Ukraine is the first line of defense for the Western world and democratic values. So if you have a website for an organization or need something yourself, feel free to post it. And feel free to keep us updated. Found your report factual and informative. Keep your head down and come back safe and sound! 🍀🍀🍀

Did you get paid leave from your employer for this, or did you just leave work? Do you agree beforehand on a period of time when the beginning and end of the assignment will be determined? Do you receive compensation of any kind? Are you in contact with any ministries or offices of the Federal Republic?

@hendrik_lmr I have no paid vacation in the sense. I have already fulfilled my target until next March, so my employer was not interested in whether I am present or not. Yep. I said I'll stay for 8 weeks and then I'll see. No, I don't get a cent. I also paid for most of my equipment because I found the equipment that was provided to be inadequate. However, there are people who get paid for it...see Doctors Without Borders and that sort of thing.I reported to the State Department. They took note of it and it was good. So contact I would not call that now xD

So....only for people who want to donate or support me: 1.: This post is not intended to collect donations. That is completely out of place on this platform. 2nd: I don't need money. I have more than enough available myself. Also, managing donations is quite difficult under the aspect that I don't know what tomorrow holds. If you really want to donate, you can do so at https://www.instagram.com/internationalaidgroup/. They bring donations in kind to the front line and the donated money is used for fuel or even purchases in Ukraine itself. For example, you can buy many medicines in Ukraine directly from the pharmacy. You can also send donations in kind to the pharmacy. That goes over sleeping bags, bag soups, blankets, etc.. (actually everything you could need in winter to keep warm). The children are also very happy about gummy bears.

which is also very popular with rescue workers... Coffee machines with 12v connection. Without coffee nothing runs here at 24h shifts xD

Cool thing! How is Starlink going? You always hear about failures.

Works very well. We have about 1 hour of downtime a week. Otherwise it works wonderfully. Most of the time we have the performance of a 100k DSL line

Hats off to you! If I were unattached and free of obligations, I could imagine doing the same.
Great!

Fortunately, there were and still are people who help others in serious crises, situations such as war, disasters, etc., you are clearly one of them, respect ✌️Denn it is important that we in the West also make our contribution, it is about our common values, such as peace, freedom and the right to freedom of expression. I personally wish you good luck on your mission, God bless 🛐 and that you return home safe and sound.

Thank you very much for your help. I come from Ukraine and have lived in Vienna for 18 years, but the war in Ukraine and my parents and my sister from Kiev have been hit hard. It is simply unbelievable what leistest❤️😭
