Aker Carbon Capture (an Storage) - Future Model or Bankruptcy?

First of all Aker Carbon Capture is part of Aker Horizons. Akor Horizon focuses on/creates companies that are involved in renewable energy and other technologies that make significant contributions to reducing emissions or promote sustainable living. Quasi an all-rounder in the renewable energy sector.

All should be aware of the problems of climate change or our current CO² emissions, if not: https://www.jbn.de/themen/klimakrise/klimawandel-einfach-erklaert. A help (very important - not a solution) should be the Carbon Capture and Storage method. So this post is not primarily about ACC as a stock or company, but rather about the method being used/researched. Indeed, ACC is not the only stock that relies on this method (see here: https://www.trendlink.com/aktien/carbon-capture-and-storage).

The Carbon Capture and Storage Method

The goal here is to reduce CO² emissions in the atmosphere, because we have long since reached a level where we emit too much CO². CO² is produced in almost every activity these days. Whether I'm writing a WhatsApp message, loitering on GQ or driving around in my car. In the meantime, it is no longer possible to avoid CO² entering the atmosphere. The idea here is not to attack the processes that emit the CO², but to capture the emitted CO². As described, this is not a solution, but ideally it would give us the time we need to solve the problem. Scientists believe that carbon capture and storage could permanently remove 65 to 80 percent of CO² from the atmosphere. [1]

Two processes are needed for this. The capture of the CO² and the safe storage. In capture, there are various chemical processes such as capture in the oxyfuel process, capture in IGCC combined cycle power plants, or downstream capture in the flue gas. Since my last chemistry lecture was a few years ago, I'll spare us all the explanation. If you are passionate about chemical processes, feel free to read up on it and share it with us. The second process (storage) is much more "simple". Here, the captured CO² is brought to the respective storage site by means of existing pipelines or by truck. Here one uses predominantly already extracted gas and oil places. This is due to the fact that the storage space does not have to be created first, huge amounts of data are already available due to the extraction and the rock there represents an ideal insulation for the CO². In the ideal case the CO² fills the pore space there and reacts in the course of the years there to calcite. Thus self-generated empty spaces under the earth are used again. [1][2][3][4]

Sounds first of all after a super thing. The problem, which many see here is that it is on the one hand no solution, but a shift of the problem and on the other hand that the CO² repositories are under the earth. A leak in the repository would cause the CO² to escape and could cause damage to the region and possibly groundwater resources. The respective development teams usually emphasize that the repositories are safe, but do not want to be liable for it. Such statements are of course not very well received. In addition, the process is not economically viable at this stage [5].

Conclusion

The whole thing is a bet for me, because there are still a lot of problem areas. From environmental problems to economic problems and basic ones like monitoring the repositories. But I like the idea behind it. The fact is that man will not change his way of life under any circumstances. Our population proves this again and again (see wearing masks). Thus, a construct must be made, which takes the human being completely out of it. This would be the case here with successful implementation. Why now Aker? Well, it is just a bet. The Norwegians are mostly willing to support such projects for a longer time and with ACC they are just betting on this concept, because they do almost nothing different. At Aker Horizons or Exxon mobile they also invest in other areas.

Brainchip will follow in a few days. I really don't feel like doing any work at the university... procrastination for se win

You can also simply leave out the exhaust on the car. That's where the co2 comes out.
