You have to keep in mind that ESG does not only consist of the environmental aspect, but also of social aspects and corporate governance. According to Yahoo Finance, Tesla is also one of the best companies if you only pay attention to the environmental aspects, but the values for corporate governance are only average and for the social aspects the value is one of the worst I have seen so far for companies, which is not surprising if you look at reports about working conditions etc.
I agree with Papa Elon, just glossy polish for a better conscience. Too much greenwashing and intransparency as far as that is concerned. When looking at individual companies, it certainly makes sense to do your own research, but with ETFs, I think it's just a selling point for a certain target group.
