If it is absolutely no longer worthwhile, letters in rural areas would only have to be delivered every 3 days or once a week.

Or, if this is not already the case, combine parcel delivery with letter delivery.

@Malte123 Parcel and letter delivery together has long been the case in rural areas.

Just like the elimination of delivery days.

Monday has not been a delivery day here for at least 10 years and it feels like Tuesday is unofficially the same.

@Staatsmann oh crass, the post comes every day here in the city, but it makes sense in the countryside

@Malte123 already exists, it's called joint delivery. Parcels only come directly from the parcel service on Mondays. This is because the letter carrier who would otherwise deliver them is not on the road. This has long been the case in rural areas. So 1 to 1 with us as with @Staatsmann

@Dividendenopi Do you still have the regular Post cars?

Everything is done by DHL here, including letters.

@Malte123 For years now, we've only had DHL vehicles for delivery staff.
I saw the last yellow Postbus in our area years before Covid. 😅

And the public letterboxes are usually emptied by subcontractors without branded cars. Only the post offices and packing stations are still properly served by DHL employees.

@Staatsmann In the small Bavarian town where I lived until four years ago, they still used to ride around on postal bikes🤣

@Malte123 It doesn't exist in the wide world of Brandenburg when there are kilometers of no man's land between the villages.

But for some years now, 100% electric vehicles have been used on most routes.
