@Tenbagger2024 Do you think it is a risk to buy a GDR share, or do you see no problem?
••

Most Indian shares can only be traded as GDRs. I have a few GDRs, including
$ERJ
and
$RIGD

And see no risk here due to GDR

Direct investment in Indian shares is hardly possible for foreigners. It is only possible via ADRs/GDRs on foreign stock exchanges or via ETFs. ETFs make it possible because large institutional investors can invest in Indian shares without any problems.

ADRs and GDRs are usually listed in New York or on the London Stock Exchange.

This also makes the tax issue superfluous in most cases: we have to pay tax in exactly the same way as we would have to pay tax on a US share or an ETF (depending on the place of issue).

ADR American Depository Receipt and GDR shares.

The GDR Global Depository Receipts are the global equivalent of the original US ADRs. Just like an ADR, a GDR is a certificate that securitizes ownership of a share and enables foreign companies to be listed on a local national stock exchange. For example, Coca Cola could be listed on the German Stock Exchange (Frankfurt) in EURO. Among developed countries, however, there are often special agreements so that Coca Cola can also list its shares directly in Frankfurt -- without a GDR certificate "in between".

Like ADRs, GDR Global Depository Receipts are generally used to invest in shares of developing countries. 1 GDR can securitize one or more shares.

@Tenbagger2024 I had a look at the mahindra website and didn't see any tractors. Only normal cars, buses, trucks and tuktuks. Where do you get the tractors from?
