Fraport: Important billion-euro deal in Turkey
Frankfurt airport operator Fraport can continue to operate the airport in the Turkish seaside resort of Antalya. Together with the Turkish majority shareholder TAV Airports Holding, the Frankfurt-based company was awarded the long-term concession until the end of 2051.
The joint bid amounted to 7.25 billion euros, of which a quarter must be paid to the Turkish airport authority within 90 days. "We won the bidding process with a convincing bid," said a delighted Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG. He added that Antalya Airport had been developed into one of the world's leading tourist hubs.
Fraport holds a 49 percent stake in the consortium and has been present in Antalya since 1999. In 2019, Antalya had more than 35 million passengers, half of Fraport's Frankfurt hub. Due to the Corona pandemic, the number of passengers in 2020 fell by almost 73 percent year-on-year to around 9.7 million. However, traffic in Antalya recovered again as early as 2021 - especially during the summer months.
