Donkeys Savings Tip of the Month

Save at mail order pharmacies

Why is there still so much month left at the end of the money? Do I have to freeze in the winter because everything has become so crappy expensive? Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to fish 4-digit sums out of the sofa corner of @Barsten to be able to fish. For everyone else, it's going to be tough. But don't worry, with the donkey's saving tips you can still afford carrots, coke and hookers in winter.

Many of you may already have noticed: Mail-order pharmacies are often much cheaper than stationary pharmacies. In addition, there are no travel times and possibly transport costs. The smart spenders among you certainly already use mail-order pharmacies extensively. And then there are colleagues like @GoDividend who also offer cashback. So the lowest price can be achieved, right?

No! Mail order pharmacies advertise low costs and are subject to a tough price war. If you use a price search engine like https://www.idealo.de/ to search for a drug, the pharmacies have to compete directly against other low-cost providers and thus undercut each other. The pharmacies want to attract new customers. If you surf directly to the website of your mail-order pharmacy - for example, because you are an existing customer - the pharmacy is not exposed to such great price pressure and charges higher prices.

An example (retrieved on 09/14/2022 around 6:30 p.m.): Would you like to buy from https://www.medpex.de/ Sinupret and surf directly to the website, 40 Sinupret extract tablets will cost you 19.99 euros. However, if you search for Sinupret extract on Idealo and then click on the Medpex offer, you will get a price of 16.48 euros (see screenshots at the end of the article).

By entering via Idealo, you save almost 20% even as an existing customer compared to the "regular" price, which you get if you go directly to the website. About https://www.shoop.de/ there is currently only 8% cashback for new customers and only 3% for existing customers - and that only on the net value of goods.

By the way, this example can also be used for many other mail-order pharmacies. At Doc Morris, I was even shown 3 different prices for the same product - depending on whether I was directed via Idealo, by calling up the website directly or via a cashback site like Shoop on https://www.docmorris.de/ (see screenshot). Of course, I also got the best price here via Idealo.

What do we learn from this?

✅ Order medicines via mail-order pharmacies.

❌ Use cashback sites for mail-order pharmacies

✅ Also enter as an existing customer via Idealo

You're welcome.

Thanks for the tip donkey 😁👍 Have myself recently researched a drug and seen in the price comparison that is cheapest at Medpex, have it then later ordered directly from Medpex and annoyed me that the price was increased again and have thought nothing more of it 😂

The problem is that mail-order pharmacies are allowed to give discounts on prescription drugs. Stationary pharmacies, however, are not. Many customers come to my pharmacy for advice and then order the product online because it's cheaper. We have a constant loss of sales as a result...
