Many altcoin promoters hold altcoins because they are convinced of their technical superiority over Bitcoin and Ethereum. Lower power consumption, more transactions per second, prettier logo, .... And they are right about that! But with DLT (distributed ledger technology, the umbrella term for technologies like blockchain or DAGs), technical superiority only matters at a very late state in development. And we are still years away from that point.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭?

Because any distributed technology becomes more efficient when you centralize it. I can run any DLT in my own, centralized data center. Communication between nodes becomes more efficient that way, I have complete control over my system, and I can deploy updates as I want. Thus, I am always superior to the decentralized variant. At the same time, my centralized version of Cardano, Cosmos, Polkadot, ... can do everything that the decentralized version can do.

The advantage of DLTs lies in their decentralized nature and the resulting protection against failure and manipulation. No state, no institution can influence decentralized cryptocurrencies. The behavior of cryptocurrencies is transparent, predictable and can only be changed with the consent of the network. Therein lies the value of decentralized blockchains & co. Not in 1000 transactions per second that can be executed 24/7 but are miles away from the capacity of Visa & Mastercard.

As long as a DLT is not decentralized, but controlled by a few players (which is the case with pretty much all DLTs), it is nothing more than an inefficient piece of software whose price is fueled by wild speculation about the future. Only when an altcoin is truly decentralized its technical superiority over other DLTs becomes relevant.

This is the reason why I personally believe that nothing will go past Bitcoin and Ethereum in the next few years and only a few coins will remain from today's altcoin jungle in a few years. Which ones these are is nothing but speculation.

@stonksonlygodown yo, at some point decentralization is enough and yo, it costs performance. But without decentralization and the certainty that it will remain decentralized, it is worthless. It is also clear that a decentralized network should not be the only decentralized part of a cryptocurrency. In principle, write this only for other readers, you have enough clue yourself 😘

@stonksonlygodown no idea. I thought I'd try it out and translate an old, short post and see what happens. GetQuin wants to expand strongly in the non-German speaking area ... Who knows. But so far the post was rather a flop. @Kundenservice how many English speaking users do you have compared to German speaking users?
