@Memo0606 Unfortunately not, I use a different broker for this.

@thewolfofallstreetz Which one do you use?
••

@Simon_n Mainly Scalable, additionally Smartboker and DeGiro, especially for topics that the neobrokers do not cover.

@thewolfofallstreetz Does duo exist at smartbroker?
••

@Simon_n Yes, but found the spreads at DeGiro somewhat better.

@thewolfofallstreetz do you think the upgrade to scalable makes sense

@thewolfofallstreetz top, thank you

@Memo0606 The Prime+ broker is worthwhile for me.

@Memo0606 You can already buy it there with a certificate, which is of course not recommended 😏

@Memo0606 Unfortunately, you can't buy some good stocks from Scalable or Traderepublic.
$FROG Neither, for example. The volume on Gettex is probably simply too low.
Many stocks have to be traded directly on the NYSE, if your broker supports this.

I used Duolingo couple months ago to start learning German.
I don't like the fact that many of the sentences they teach you are non-sense or non appliable in a real life scenario.
Plus the teaching method is very slow, the app forces you to repeat the same sentences over and over even when you go up with the levels.
I think Duolingo is useful only as an introduction to the language and then you have to stop using it if you really wanna improve and switiching to a different method

@TheMaverick The app was initially built for beginners. With the advent of AI, the company is rolling out a lot more courses, also for intermediate and more advanced learners. They started doing so for English learners as it is the most important language in the world and on the Duolingo platform. I am sure that other languages will follow over time. Did you use the free tier or the subscription? Are you still on the platform?

@TheMaverick write German with us and you learn quicker 👌

If you speak English, which most of us do I believe try the app Language Transfer. I've been using it for a couple weeks now and really like it. It does depend on your own discipline since there are no checks or points. But that is where all learning falls or stands with anyway, discipline and motivation

@di_marcello Exactly. And most people don’t have discipline or intrinsic motivation. That’s what Duolingo does best. Help you or force you to build a daily habit.

@thewolfofallstreetz I agree with you there. My response was for @TheMaverick who does want to learn a language. 😆

Why has it come down so much this year?
••
@DBD_073 for what i remember there have been some campaigns on socials against duolingo for which people were uninstalling the application in mass for the AI feature that teaches you non sense things
•

•
immagine del profilo
@DBD_073 They got some consumer backlash regarding their view and implementation of AI within the company. In my view, this is noise and rather a communication mistake. Also, before earnings, there were concerns about a potential growth slowdown. Finally, there is fear around disruption by AI, e.g. ChatGPT 5 showed a demo last week of creating a language learning web application.

I’m following the company and did Some research. Couple of things.
- community complains about switch to ‘ai first company’. But exegarated because no employes get fired for example. But also said to be noticed in quality of courses and customer service
- more push of users towards premium in the app which annoys freemium users
- recently, right after the good Q figures, demo of Chat GPT 5 which allows users to make language course games themself
For me it’s probably going to be a pass. Duolingo is disrupting as first mover on tech-education but it has a fair chance to be disrupted itself by better AI. With these multiples, allthough a lot down from precious high’s, still a significant risk for buy and hold strategy I think

@Olli68 True, but happens with a lot of great companies, e.g. Palantir, Robinhood, etc.
••

@Shell Good summary! + concerns about growth slowdown in daily active users (mentioned by Jeffries)
•

•

@Shell Agree with your points. There is risk but I don't see that they will be disrupted by AI. Rather the opposite, it will be a tailwind for them. But of course I could be wrong. Multiples are high but they are justified as this is one of the best businesses on the planet.

@thewolfofallstreetz you could be right. That’s also what I think. But because no one knows for sure it’s a higher risk then some Investors want to take it seems.

Anyone who thinks that AI could be a problem for Duolingo has no idea.
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Charmin Why not so yes they use AI themselves but the moat is not deep
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Soprano The moat is the countless existing playful exercises ... of course anyone can do this in principle, but the effort required for a new player to master it is considerable.

AI can help, but chatgpt (etc.) alone is no competition.
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Charmin Well the core problem is, it might be fun etc and there is a lot of brand awareness and a lot of users yes ... but it doesn't work. I can use any other learning method and get just as bad results.
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Soprano THAT is another question entirely. But: Both my daughters love Duolingo (free version), and the little one does indeed have a few basics in English (okay, that's probably also due to the incessant singing of Taylor Swift).
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Soprano I've been using the app for about 4 months and I can already hold basic conversations relatively well. Why do you think it doesn't work? Or what would be a better method?
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Charmin Yes, or in the classroom. It certainly makes sense to do the Duolingo exercises in addition.
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Simon_n So you might be able to learn the vocabulary, but you'll struggle with the grammar at the latest.
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Soprano can be, especially for languages with a completely different structure, but to be honest I couldn't think of a better solution either
••
immagine del profilo
3Settimana
@Simon_n Well, there are ways but probably none that are so convenient and cheap I think

Why should ChatGPT destroy Duolingo?
••
immagine del profilo
@PaulPK There is this narrative in the market, visible for example after the presentation of ChatGPT 5, where a language app was set up in just a few seconds and the share price corrected significantly. AI tutoring, live translation via AirPods, etc. are also conceivable. This risk exists, of course, but I see AI more as a catalyst for Duolingo.
