Gold and Austria

Hello everybody!

I have been thinking about putting my portfolio on a broader footing in the future and for this reason adding a certain percentage of #gold to the mix.

I currently live in #österreich and wanted to find a sensible approach in this way.

A brief search here in the forum has at least revealed that ECTs are fully taxed (in contrast to physical gold). Apart from that, I have not been able to find out much here.

How do my fellow austrian people handle their gold?

$EWG2 (+0%) and live with the fact that it is taxed (here is the question of whether input tax is incurred or only the capital gains tax on the sale?)

OR

physical gold and if so where is the best place to buy it/what are good/reputable dealers?

Thank you very much for your answers and have a nice day! :)

Hello from the south of Austria 😎

I have my gold as $4GLD in the portfolio on GQ for tracking, but I have a savings plan with Philoro ☺️ taxed 1:1 like physical gold and you can always have it tracked at the branches ☺️

Philoro is also a reputable provider ☺️

@TheRealGAE thank you for the quick reply! :)

Do you open an account with Philoro and they deposit gold for the money you deposit, or how does it work?

@TheRealGAE not an issue! Gold is currently keeping my portfolio stable😂

Roughly speaking, it works like this:

It works according to the savings plan principle. 25€ minimum amount, which is withdrawn on the 1st of the month. The transaction is then carried out on the 10th. You can simply register online (see Philoro gold savings plan). The contributions can then be conveniently changed in the web browser. You can also see the current portfolio ☺️

You can also make one-off payments (min. €100).

You can have the money paid out, or you can collect the gold from the branch. The gold is deposited in a customer account ☺️

Alternatively, there is the offer from the Austrian Mint (100% subsidiary of the National Bank) - but they send you the Philharmonic as soon as the ounce is full - I just don't like that ☺️

@Dividenden_Monteur @Kimono_93 With $EWG2 you only have to pay the capital gains tax as with any sale of shares, unfortunately you do not have the tax exemption as with physical gold. You are welcome to do this for short-term speculation. In the longer term, I would go into physical gold or as suggested by @TheRealGAE - although I can't say anything about Philoro as I have never dealt with it.

I myself have some physical gold in small bars (5g), so it can also be sold in small tranches. Personally, I also like the Philharmonic - but coins are always a matter of taste.

To all Germans who want to invest in gold: read the pinned post at our Gold Pope @Epi

@Caynify Nah, nah, I'm not your gold pope, I never will be.
Maybe the momentum prophet. Momentum is currently in gold, a year ago it was in the Nasdaq100, a year from now it might be in commodities.
Or the allocation guru. I've been preaching gold as diversification with a significantly higher weighting than the usual 5-10% share since the beginning. 🙏

@Epi Since my gold position is currently rising, my portfolio is not doing so badly, even though I actually have a lot of FinTech 😀

@Caynify All those who have my recommended 20-30% of gold in their equity portfolio are not doing badly at the moment. 👍
