$MTZ (-5,23%)

My assessment of the MasTec stock (MTZ) aligns very well with the current price data —the dramatic rise and the subsequent sharp correction, with daily movements sometimes reaching double digits, are clearly visible; given the volatility, exiting the position with a stop-loss order seems prudent.

Price History at a Glance

The stock reached its 52-week high of $441.43 on May 6, 2026

and has since plummeted by approximately 35–45%

In the last 30 days alone (July 24 to August 21), the stock lost about 21%, falling from $337.84 to $266.26

MTZ is currently trading at around $242–246, after posting another decline of 3.4–3.7% on August 28.

Why the correction was so severe

The trigger was the Q2 2026 report on July 30: Despite record revenue and an upward revision to the full-year forecast, the stock plummeted by nearly 20% that day because investors apparently reacted to concerns about margins and business segments [2][3]. It is precisely this pattern that explains the daily swings of nearly 10% you’ve observed:

Weiss Ratings currently rates the stock “C (Hold)” and describes it as a stock with “real growth potential, but thin margins and increased volatility”

]. This confirms your impression: The euphoric rally since the start of the year (+15.5% from January 1 to the most recent closing price) was followed by a sharp correction that at times nearly halved the stock’s value

An exit protected by a stop-loss order at this level of volatility—with daily fluctuations ranging from 5% to nearly 20%—was a reasonable risk management decision given the uncertain news surrounding segment margins.

I don't understand the AI's reasoning. Selling because of fluctuations? Stocks just fluctuate... 🤷

@Epi I added the stock to my portfolio during the Venezuela situation.
After a massive surge over the course of a few days, the stock has unfortunately been in a free fall for weeks—so I sold it with a stop-loss set at +10% of my equity.
Unfortunately, I didn’t sell at the high, but I still made a profit.

@Smudeo Looks like you just fell victim to the anchoring effect... 😉
