Franco-British satellite operator Eutelsat has pledged to provide services that boost Europe's autonomy in space-based connectivity while continuing to provide internet access to war-torn Ukraine, it said on Monday.
"We have deployed and continue to operate hundreds of terminals in Ukraine and the Black Sea. This underlines Europe's commitment to Ukraine's digital resilience," a Eutelsat spokesman said in an e-mailed statement to Reuters.
By 13:47 GMT, Eutelsat shares had surged 31 percent as part of a broader rally in European defense stocks, as investors bet on rising European demand for the company's OneWeb satellites.

Eutelsat, Airbus & MediaTek bring 5G to space
Eutelsat, together with Airbus and MediaTek, has achieved a major milestone: the first successful test of 5G via non-terrestrial networks (NTN)! The whole thing took place via the Eutelsat OneWeb satellites in low earth orbit. The satellites were built by Airbus. According to the announcement from the companies, this is a huge step for the future of satellite communication.
Eutelsat emphasizes that these tests will pave the way for the 5G NTN standard and advance the networking of satellites with traditional mobile networks.
