Starting today, Waymo’s self-driving vehicles are available exclusively through the Uber app in Austin. Riders booking UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with a Waymo, though availability is limited at launch.
Waymo operates in a 37-square-mile area, covering Downtown, Hyde Park, and Montopolis, but won’t run on highways yet. Fleet services, cleaning, and maintenance will be managed by Uber’s partner Avmo, while Waymo continues to handle testing and rider support.
This marks Waymo and Uber’s first major collaboration, a surprising shift after years of legal battles over self-driving tech. Atlanta will be the next launch city.
