📈 What happens to Berkshire Hathaway when Warren Buffett is gone? 📉

I've read a few posts about this on Getquin, but because I'm really interested in the topic and would like to delve a little deeper, I'll share my thoughts here.

I've often asked myself this question, because I find Berkshire Hathaway ($BRK.B (+1,66%) ) as a company is mega exciting.

At the same time, for many investors, "everything" depends on Warren Buffett.

He is the face, the head and the heart of Berkshire.

But what happens if one day he is no longer there?

After all, Buffett is already over 90.

It's not a nice thought, but it's realistic and as an investor you should be prepared for such a scenario.

My thoughts on this:

🔁 The succession is settled:

Buffett has repeatedly emphasized that Greg Abel will succeed him in the operational area. Charlie Munger even described him as "exactly the right person".

Abel knows the company inside out, thinks long-term and pursues a similar style, but without Buffett's cult status.

🏛️ The foundations are in place:

Berkshire has long been a huge corporation with stable cash flows, strong holdings (Apple, Coca-Cola, American Express, etc.) and an extremely solid balance sheet.

Even without Buffett, the company will not suddenly fall into chaos.

📉 Investor confidence:

In the short term, the share price could definitely come under pressure after Buffett's death due to panic selling, headlines and uncertainty.

But I am convinced that in the long term, things will settle down again.

Anyone who invests in Berkshire is investing in a system and not just a person.

🤔 Value or cult?

The key question: how much of Berkshire's valuation is pure "Buffett bonus" - and how much is real substance?

In my opinion, there is some premium, but not to the extent that the whole house of cards would collapse.

💬 What do you guys think?

@DynasticGrind Warren Buffett won't die until Coca-Cola is discontinued

I'm more wondering what will happen after Abel. Abel himself is actually close to retirement age now. I am convinced that Abel has already made many decisions himself. But if he were to retire in five years or even die, Warren could theoretically outlive him. The risk that neither of them will be at the helm for much longer is my biggest concern.

But I've also been invested myself for years.

@KevinE With Ted Weschler, Tod Combs and Ajit Jain, there are others who could continue to run the company on a solid basis.

@TheStoic Yes, but even they are not younger (except for Combs).

I'll stay invested, but whether the store will still be doing as well in 20 years as it has in the last 20 - I don't want to commit myself to that. Even if WB and CM have laid an incredible foundation.

@KevinE That's how I see it too.
Combs and the other successors are very promising, but they have extremely big shoes to fill.
But as you have already written, Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger have created an incredible foundation.

I think there will be a strong setback when Buffett passes away and then there will probably be dividends
And the share price will continue to rise
z. e.g. Apple

@Lumimyrsky Yes, that's right, Warren Buffett is now counting dividends. 😂

the way i see it, the valuation is the valuation, regardless of buffet being there or not. Until i start seeing decline in earnings, or major changes in invest strategy, i would welcome a downturn in the share price. Gives me more chance to buy.

I'm a big fan of Warren, but I don't think he's still heavily involved in the operating business at the moment. I hope that he lives forever, but if he does leave us at some point and that tempts some shaky hands to sell their shares, I will increase my position at a special price.
