What do you think of the story?
The Metals Company (TMC) is currently one of the most speculative companies on the Nasdaq as its entire business model is based on deep sea mining. deep sea mining an industry that does not yet exist commercially. The "gamble" is that TMC claims billions in metals (nickel, cobalt, copper) in the form of nodules on the seabed of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in the Pacific, but does not yet have a final license to mine them. After the share price rose by over 500 % in 2025, it is expected to reach around 7,80 $ at the beginning of 2026.
The current momentum is being driven primarily by a political turnaround: As the international authority (ISA) is reluctant to regulate, TMC, with the support of the US government, is trying to obtain licenses via the US authority NOAA to obtain licenses. Investors are betting that this "American solo effort" will speed up the path to production (planned from the end of 2027). However, there is still a binary risk: if TMC receives approval, the share is considered a potential "tenbagger"; if the project fails due to environmental regulations or international law, there is a risk of total loss, as the company currently generates hardly any sales and is making high losses.
