0 turnover and still worth a gamble?

$TMC

What do you think of the story?

The Metals Company (TMC) is currently one of the most speculative companies on the Nasdaq as its entire business model is based on deep sea mining. deep sea mining an industry that does not yet exist commercially. The "gamble" is that TMC claims billions in metals (nickel, cobalt, copper) in the form of nodules on the seabed of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in the Pacific, but does not yet have a final license to mine them. After the share price rose by over 500 % in 2025, it is expected to reach around 7,80 $ at the beginning of 2026.

The current momentum is being driven primarily by a political turnaround: As the international authority (ISA) is reluctant to regulate, TMC, with the support of the US government, is trying to obtain licenses via the US authority NOAA to obtain licenses. Investors are betting that this "American solo effort" will speed up the path to production (planned from the end of 2027). However, there is still a binary risk: if TMC receives approval, the share is considered a potential "tenbagger"; if the project fails due to environmental regulations or international law, there is a risk of total loss, as the company currently generates hardly any sales and is making high losses.

@Keineui hmm Taiwan is coming to a head. The main source of nickel and cobalt is China. $TMC is sitting on the deposits but is not allowed to mine them.

@Darkwingduck to you, investment philosophy, which you have now delivered. Then: totally understandable that you make such gambles more often.

@All-in-or-nothing I am 21 years young, was born in Berlin and also live here. I am currently studying dual auditing. Before starting my studies, I worked as a student trainee at a private equity company.
I have been actively playing soccer since I was 4 and have been investing for about a year.

My investment philosophy has changed a lot since I started. Above all, I try to learn something new every day. I actively use AI for research. As I said, I am very much into small/mid caps. I only buy ETFs in tranches during periods of major weakness.
I don't mind making the occasional gamble. So far, I've missed out on returns more by selling than by buying.

I am very actively looking for new pearls and this community helps me a lot to find the fly in the ointment. It's really fun!

It’s an all or nothing approach. You could lose your investment with the snap of one orange man’s finger. It’s purely speculation, or I’d rather say: pure gambling.

Even if they get the license, the infrastructure has to be created first. Sounds a bit like a suicide mission
