1. Germany declares gas crisis, due to Russia stopping gas supplies to Europe.

Europe's largest economy is now officially short of natural gas and is tightening a contingency plan to maintain supplies as Russia turns off the tap.

Germany on Thursday activated the second phase of its three-stage gas emergency program, moving one step closer to rationing supplies to industry in a move that would deal a major blow to the manufacturing heart of the German economy.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said he hoped rationing would not be necessary to get through the coming winter, but could not rule it out.

Gas will be in short supply in Germany from now on," he said at a press conference in Berlin. "Even if you don't feel it yet, we are in a gas crisis."

2. Netflix lays off 300 employees

Already in the previous month Netflix had to give up 150 jobs due to weakening revenues. The reason for the weak revenues is mainly the current high inflation, which in May already reached a value of 8.6% in the US. Other reasons include the economic slowdown and the extremely strong competition from Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Netflix wants to lay off about 4% of its employees to minimize costs, which corresponds to about 300 employees.

3rd bitcoin billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried saves BlockFi and Voyager from bankruptcy

BlockFi receives a $250 million revolving loan from FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried's crypto exchange, to continue to grow and what strengthens its platform. To that end, it is funding crypto broker Voyager Digital with $500 million in financing. Considering the current existential crises in the crypto market, Sam Bankman-Fried is something of a savior.
